UAD-1 not compatible with Tiger?

Hi all

I've seen on a couple of boards that the UAD-1 isn't working with Tiger? I haven't seen any announcement about this - it is rather important!

I've e-mailed UAudio with no response so far.

Does anyone have any more info?

Regards

Stephen

Well considering it's 6:25am on a Monday West Coast time as I am leaving this reply to you, it is quite possible that they have enjoyed their weekend off like most Americans and will answer you when they open and retrieve all their emails.

And considering Tiger has not been OFFICIALLY released I think there should be no cause for alarm till after April 29th.

No, disrespect to you, but I find it funny how this always happens. People get REALLY worried that their hardware/software is no longer going to work with Apple latest OS's......don't worry I bet you anything that shortly you will know if it works and secondly if it doesn't work with Tiger RIGHT now it will be working shortly.

What you are reading on boards is info that is not reliable at all; if they are running tiger they are most likely not running the final build and most obviously are running UAD drivers designed for panther.

I pre ordered Tiger and I have no immediate or desperate need to install it, perhaps you do? If that's true you may have to wait and that's unfortunate. I'm betting you won't have to wait long if at all, UAD has so far been great about staying on the ball with these sort of things. And to be honest with you even if things are tiger 'approved' I'll let other people try it first for a few weeks and watch this forum to see their results.

Also, I've heard that due to developer's non disclosure agreements with Apple they won't be able to say anything about compatibility until AFTER Tiger's release date. I've heard that from a couple of companies.

So, use your system (hopefully it's running as well as mine is) in Panther and wait, let others take the plunge first and I'm sure all will be fine.

At least TC Powercore will work in Tiger with the current drivers. Their support says that tiger doesn't need new drivers. But we'll see how it actually is.

The reason I posted this is that several people on other fora had posted that they had heard directly from UAudio about the incompatibility with Tiger. As I've ordered a Mac with Tiger, I was hoping to get some confirmation.

I certainly don't want to start distributing any mis-information!

But if this is true, and UAudio have e-mailed users, I'm surprised that there's been no anouncement. I don't know about you, but it's really important that my UAD-1 works right away with Tiger.

Please don't assume that all UAD-1 owners are currently running Panther!

Stephen

Dude, Don't worry to much...

Back to very first time...UAD-1 don't even support for MAC...

and It was OS9 only ...

I waited till UA got Mac's driver ..then bought my first UAD..

and this will be same situation....

They will support for Tiger as long as they made the driver..

How did you order a Mac with Tiger? It has not been released yet, nor is it a BTO (build-to-order) option with Apple. Also, I would HIGHLY discourage you from running x.0 release of software. I can guarantee their will be a number of bugs with the new release that can potentially cause stability issues. I would recommend you run Panther until they get to x.1 or x.2 release. Just my two cents but I deal with bleeding edge hardware and software for a living.

And just to reiterate, the OS hasnt even shipped yet. it is not OFFICIALLY OUT. For all we know the next UA Driver update slated for 2nd Q 2005 which will have a Roland effect has already been coded and tested for tiger and will show up on the Website as a V4.0 Update for all of us faithful users to conincide with OS X.4

People Panic way too much over minor stuff. WHy is it minor???

Cuz the OS aint even shipping yet.

And like the other guys said who gives a flip if UAD 3.8 isnt working with a Developers release of Tiger.

For all we know the next UA drive is already in Beta testing. TOO MUCH Speculation.

Now to your next comment. Can you get ahold of one of these alleged Emails fro UA regarding Tiger Support......

Rumors cause issues and problems. Y not call UA yourself instead of waiting for an Email response. They do answer the fone. :)

Ok enuff venting.

Bring on the New G5's is all I gotta say :)

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to step in and clarify; the current v3.8 drivers are not Tiger qualified due to specific under-pinning changes in 10.4. We are currently working on integrating Tiger support and come up with a Jaguar/Panther/Tiger solution but at this time we do not yet have an ETA for the next release.

so is it safe to believe that ver 3.9 won't be released until a tiger solution is reached?

speaking from a PC user's point of view.. :)

Thanks for the heads-up James.

Quite 8)

I wasn't panicking, just asking for clarification. Which James was kind enough to provide. Now I can make my decisions based on facts.

It always amazes me that others assume that just because they don't need a certain feature or compatibility assume that everyone doesn't need that feature! :?:

Hopefully more info/specifics in the May webzine?

Stephen, I'm sort of amazed that you are \"amazed\"! I think that people were giving some good well intentioned honest advice, given the information you gave us. At least that was my intention. Just to be clear, and with all realism, you don't NEED tiger compatibility any more than any of us IMO. At least with the info you gave us. And there is a simple work around.

I say go ahead with the purchase, and while you are at it you can probably find panther (if you don't have it already) for sale for about $40, wipe the drive install panther on that new machine for the next few months. That $40 or so dollars will be well spent especially if you have to get work done right away.

I stand with those posters who think it's not too sensible to jump into a new OS with such eagerness. I had to hang onto OS 9 for quite some time before I made the jump to X.

I guess I just can't be patient. :D

About all the other plugins work in tiger already and a guy at OSX Audio forums told that he got 16% power increase in logic when he updated to tiger. It shouldn't take too long to see a new uad driver. Motu also has a new beta driver for the 828 mk2, which people reported to work ok.
