Hi loading UAD Century Tube Channel Strip 31% DSP, then delete and load UADx Century Tube Channel Strip 31% DSP. Same for following: UAD 1176 Rev A compressor 23% DSP and UADx 1176 Rev A Compressor 23% DSP. Am I missing something?

UADx plugins are running on your CPU.

UAD2 plugins run on the DSP chips.

OK I think my question was why does a UADx plugin indicate that using DSP if it is designed not to require DSP but run solely on CPU? There seems to be no difference to DSP usage when loading either a UADx or its other UAD2 version plugin. Should there be? The PGM (if this is a measure of CPU) does not seem to change either. Just curious. Thought having UADx versions would help to distribute processing demands between and across PC and Apollo. But that does not seem to be the case.

Is it possible that the dsp version, assuming you own it, is still loaded on a track in ‘console’?

There is definitely some DSP plugins running somewhere. Like klasaine said; check console (auxes and hidden tracks as well)

EDIT: Or, you are just seeing the base DSP usage the console naturally consumes? Send a pic of your System Info Tab from the UAD Control Panel App if you can

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes. So I deleted session in Luna because it did not matter what I did DSP never changed. Opened up a new session and tested UAD2 vs UADx and bingo, loading latter makes no demand on DSP. So whatever the problem with that session deleting it solved it. Still annoying and confusing for a while that it should behave in this way. I tend not to open Console when working with Luna.

Oh just one more thing I noticed not related to the DPS issue is that the UADx options on Century Tube Channel Strip, i.e. mic, low cut, phase, pad when selected do not select on the Apollo. So assume either selecting these are redundant on the UADx or that they are valid but do not effect the selection on the Apollo. If redundant then I suppose I need to ensure that these options are selected on Apollo. If not redundant do I need to do anything on the Apollo? Not very clear about this. If use UAD2 then there is link between plugin and Apollo so not an issue. Also can't save settings in UADx plugin?

I believe those functions are only mirrored on an Apollo if the channel strip is used as a Unison insert. Even if you use the DSP version on a regular insert, those functions won't be mirrored on the hardware. They do still function though, it's just not mirrored.

I have so much DSP now and only mix in LUNA (limited to no Console use for me) so don’t pay too much attention as I try and only use UAD2 versions, but this thread seems to indicate differences in plugin features and behavior between Unison and Insert.

OK thanks I guess that makes sense re limited to Unison insert. Good to know these options still function is not mirrored on the Apollo. Many thanks.
