UAD Console spacebar doesn't start DAW playback

Hello,
I found out that when I have opened session in Logic Pro X and I am actually focused on UAD Console window then hitting the spacebar key on my keyboard starts playback in Logic Pro X. But it doesn't work in other DAWs like Reaper or Bitwig Studio.

I wonder is there any settings which I should perform to start it woking in other DAWs?

To be honest I have additional question. Does anyone know how it works in the depth with Logic Pro? I am working on my own standalone application which I would like to have the same functionality but I have no idea how to do that. The only thing come to mind is to use MIDI. But not sure if it's good idea. Maybe is there any other better solution. How it works in UAD Console?

For any help great thanks in advance.
Best Regards

Great thanks for your reply, but there is no info why it doesn't work in Reaper nor Bitwig. There is only general info.
With my own experience I found out that it works in Logic Pro and LUNA. But not in other DAWs. Is this some lack on other DAWs side? Or it's bug on UAD Console side?

Best Regards

No idea. We do not support/test either of those DAWs, but it should still work.

I'm on Ventura 13.6.3 and Logic Pro 10.8.1, and I've tried over and over again to get this to work by manually adding the Mixer Engine to Privacy/Accessibility without success. Very very annoying!

I'm having the same problem with Logic 11 and MacOs 14.5. It works fine with Pro Tools and Ableton Live, but not Logic. I can't see an obvious reason anywhere in my settings... frustrating to be sure.

I'm having the same issue myself with Keystroke Passthrough. When using my MacBook Pro with Monterey, on Logic Pro X, I can control Logic with shortcuts while UA Console is on the foreground. Now, on a Mac Studio, with Sonoma, on Logic Pro 11, I can't! Strangely enough, there's one keystroke that gets through: advancing 1 bar with the ">" key. Any other command doesn't get through. Which is very frustrating, since I used this feature to control Recording ("R") or Play/Stop ("spacebar") from Console window all the time.

Anyone can shed some light on this?

Update: I think this is more of a Logic Pro 11 problem. I tried doing the same with LUNA on the background and it worked fine.

Hey Drew,
Yes, I referenced the same article and even tried manually enabling Console keystroke passthrough, as per instructions. And still, no success.

One thing though: this article may be outdated. The dialog box that popped up for me asked me to allow "UAD Console" instead of UA Mixer Engine (see attachment). I did as asked, and since it didn't work, I tried manually including accessibility access to "UA Mixer Engine" as well (as shown in attachment). Didn't work either.

Lastly, I tried excluding "UA Console", leaving only "UA Mixer Engine" (like the article suggests). Not only it didn't work, it also meant I couldn't even send through the ">" command to Logic anymore (the only one that was working). This also meant LUNA stopped receiving keystroke passthrough too.

So I presume what really counts is enabling "UA Console" and also it seems Logic Pro 11 currently has compatibility issues with this specific feature. At least from my end, it's what it looks like. But yeah, very strange stuff. The fact that only the ">" gets through to Logic, in particular.

Excellent!! thanks for the update!!

I've passed this info along to Support so they can investigate.

The keystroke passthrough works at first and then as I begin working in Logic 11.1.2, it stops functioning. R for Record or S for Spacebar Play stop functioning completely when the Console window is on top of Logic. I'm opening a ticket, but would like to know if this issue has been solved already. I'm running Sequoia 15.1 on a iMac M4. The UAD products have been installed properly, Recovery mode operation was performed before installation of UAD applications and all appear to be working fine except for the keystroke passthrough. This is really slowing down the workflow! I am getting awesome sound from UAD, but need to get this corrected ASAP. Thank you.

I haven't heard anything back on my Support ticket #892545 for some time now. I just got off the phone with Apple's Logic Pro specialists. We tried everything on Apple's end to sort this problem out, but the problem still persists. The only keystroke passthrough that appears to work consistently is the right arrow key (advances one bar at a time). Basic keystrokes like "R" to record or "Spacebar" to playback do not work. This is rendering the Apollo Twin Gen2 that I purchased in December nearly useless in recording sessions. Very frustrating. Any word from UAD on progress on this issue? I'm beginning to regret switching from Apogee to UAD!
