UAD - Logic 7.1 - Panther - Delay compensation

Does the full delay bus, aux delay compensation work with Panther 3.9 and Logic 7.1. Or does it require Tiger?

I have full delay compensation checked in the Logic 7.1 audio prefs and there are no error messages or weird stuff so far. Have not actually looked at wave forms yet. UAD card seems to work fine.

Thanks

Hi Retro,
The full delay comp in Logic 7.1 works in 10.3.x, it's not an OS level thing. The default setting, however, is still to do only audio/audio instrument tracks, so you want to go under Preferences>Audio and set Plugin Delay Compensation to \"All\". :)

However while you are recording Virtual Instruments stick with the default setting and do not have the UAD plugs on auxes or outputs as this is still a problem. (Busses are fine.) Switch to "All" and instanciate any UAD plugs on auxes and outputs only when you are finished playing in V.I. parts and are ready to automate and mix, etc.

More than 1 UAD plugin on a bus?

Hi, got my 7.1 upgrade for Logic today and tried the pdc straight away...No delay with one plug but as soon as i put another it delayed the signal - UAD's plug in compensator didn't help either...Should Logic automatically compensate for as many plugins that are used?

Hi M,
Can you elaborate on the \"with MIDI\" part; like exactly how you are setting that up? Also, would you happen to have a link to that post on the Apple/Logic site? Thanks.

I'm re organising my setup so I ain't had a chance to test the FPDC yet.

Now this has giving me more issus in how i'm going to configure my setup.

If you have multiple Audio inputs on your DAW, and plug your MIDI Instruments Audio outputs into your DAWs Audio inputs, would this sort the MIDI timing issue.

To me, if I got UAD effects on Audio tracks and VIs then I want them on my external MIDI stuff too, without having to mixdown. Thats why I wanted to checkout PT TDM effects.

From what the apple document says ... it seems best to use \"All\" plugs on the auxes and on the output only after tracking is complete. It seems to be a headache when used other than at mix time.

Remember you could have worked this way by moving things manually - the only this is doing is calculating and moving the tracks.

I am curious about how pro tools and nuendo do this - do they not have the same issues after you set the PDC and then want to add new instrument tracks? Does anyone know?

Yes Nuendo/Cubase (or any app with auto delay comp for that matter) would work the same. Cubase/Nuendo has a button called \"Constrain Delay Compensation\" which effectively turns off all the plugins which require delay compensation (and you can define particular plugins in the plugin manager). While it's not quite the same under Logic, it's a similar principle. Essentially the best option is pull up the UAD-1 plugins when you start mixing, not during tracking (at least that's what I do ;) )

Sorry to say but it's a sad state of affairs when we progress to digital heights that the ultimate goal is to emulate analogue machines and techniques, that requires workflow work arounds that are slower than having to bounce tracks, splice tape, and get a take right first time!

M,

just turn the plugs off - or leave them out till you mix....

you won't have to splice any tape to get the job done....

while we're here, can someone just hurry up and invent a time mahcine so we can all work without having to think? he he...

James.
