UAD Neve 1073

I'm in the same boat as you (except fpr the space echo sentiment; I can't imagine life without it). With just two cards, I don't think I'll be buying the Neve... If UA got even half as good a sound as a real 1073 or a Vintech reissue, I'll want it on every track, and that isn't even close to feasible with the rumored DSP usage.
I was sort of on the fence about getting another Project Pack just for the Neve, but I don't want to go in on another card if there's new hardware right around the corner. It just doesn't seem like a sound investment.
Maybe if they announce the next hardware around the time the Neve is released, I'll have a better idea of where I stand, but right now it's a definite no-go.
I agree (except that I didn't get the space echo...didn't need it). I was also thinking of getting a Project Pack for the 1073. If the UA neve sounds really good, and guys that have used the real 1073 can confirm how close the UA Neve sounds to the real deal, then I still might get a new card for it. If it does sound close, then even 4 instances plus the cost of the Project Pack is a great deal considering the price of 4 1073 hardware units.

I wish UA would give us some info on whether or not a new/more powerful card is in the near or distant future. It would sure help some of us make up our minds.

whats interesting is ive just read may's 'computer music magazine' where they reviewed 'waves SSLl 4000' it scored 10/10.

they summed the review up as

quote

\"these plugins arnt cheap , but when you consider that they're at least on par with the equivalent DSP card effects , their price becomes alot more palatable\"

so CMM magazine currently think the SSL 4000 bundle is on par however not better than current DSP solutions!!!! this statement makes me believe UA's Neve 1073 release is going to be far superior.

Sadly, left this world before his time.

What's that click?
The "click" he refers to is the Constrain Delay Compensation button.........located on the top, left hand side of the project window (below "File").

I'll vouch for that! The more I use my SSLs the less I'm using my UAD EQs, I don't mean this negatively but they use so little DSP, they are very flexible and I can now EASILY say that they sound as good as the PEQ. The buss compressor, IMO, is better than the Fairchild and has more "guts" than the 1176. The LA2A is still precious to me though, because it's so easy and does just what it should, love it on vocals...

Lordy out....

ADD: if something is "on par" with something why should that mean that it's not as good? Is an Plutec "on par" with a Sontec EQ, or just different?
At the end of the day it's all just a matter of opinion.
