UAD on G5 - sound card reccomendations please

First of all Hi to the forum, I've owned a couple of UADs for bout 4 years, now I'm in need some advice regarding eeking the most out of my system:

I've just invested in a nice 2nd hand G5: dual 2gHz, 8GM RAM, trying to make it as UAD friendly as possible.

I have a Motu 828 mk1, but I'm not really too keen on it, it was my first 'proffesional' interface, and I've noticed that it is not great quality. Now that I read that UAD works best with PCI based sound card I'm strongly thinking about change.

So, any reccomendations? Would quite like to go 24bit/96kHz... high I/O count is priority over any other features.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure that's true. Anyway, I sold my MOTU PCI-424 based system - I was getting crackling and having other issues as well. I bought an RME Fireface 800. It works great with the UAD-1 card, and I'll be able to use it if I decide to buy an intel Mac in the future.

I have 4 UAD's and a FW Yamaha O1X. Its pretty stable and I can't complain in terms of overall performance. The only hit I get is from the UAD's themselves since I have a G5 with an AMD 8131 PCI-X Tunnel. Aside from that everything is good.

I do have some occasional loss of communication between the O1X and SX, but I haven't been able to figure out what causes it. Its not very often but it does happen sometimes.

TRACE :)

Thanks for the reply.

I think I'm gonna stick with my stinking 828 mk1 for now. I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled forsomething bargainous in the PCI domain, maybe motu PCI 424... maybe RME Hammerfall... dunno what else there is in the PCI world that isn't X or E.

cheers
