Uad Preamp to Apollo Solo with female trs problem

Been trying this one for weeks now..
I’ve connected the line output of my preamp to the line in (of the microphone input) on my interface with a female Trs cable.

Made sure the interface is switched to line, and preamp is switched to mic and things get weird…

The only signal that passes is a stable electrical hum. And the gain knob on my interface can affect the level of that hummy signal! No other signal passes through.(I’ve attached a photo of the console below)

The only way I can record the preamp is switching the interface to mic instead of line and that works fine, but I am aware this off .

thanks you guys for any idea you might have!
In the photo Analog 2 is connected to the preamp.
Gear I’m using - uad 6176 preamp and Apollo solo

Welcome to the forum!

My advice (learned the hard way...) avoid setting the Solo to MIC, when the Solo is fed by an external preamp. It's one accidental mouse click or knob bump away from an extreme instant overload and feedback situation. Especially dangerous if a Unison preamp is inserted on the Solo.

(hate to be captain obvious, but just in case... did you try another cable by a different brand? TRS combo jacks can be very picky about slight differences in plug size)

So, the level on the meter is the hum level?

This sounds like you may not be fully inserted into the line 2 TRS input or have a bad cable. The gain knob on The Apollo Solo does still affect the line level, but it's very clean gain and transparent, as long as you keep it very low.
