Neve Preamp

The most coveted and copied microphone preamp of all time, now standalone for UAD – featuring
Unison technology for Apollo interfaces.

The Neve preamp class A design is considered the most revered preamp ever designed, and is certainly the most cloned and copied; Rupert Neve's easily tops the shortlist of all-time greatest audio production masterpieces. This Class-A, transistor mic/line amp epitomizes the "Neve essence," endearing it to engineers and producers worldwide.

Based on the 1073, 1084 and 1290 standalone Neve preamp, this design was found in Neve 80 series consoles, and has been used on a massive number of popular recordings from the late-20th-century until today. Provide the same unmistakable clarity, sheen, and bite to your music that is nearly unattainable with any other unit, with the Neve Preamp for UAD-2 and Apollo interfaces.

Now You Can:

  • Provide your tracks the coveted Neve preamp clarity, sheen, and bite, from clean to clipped
  • Enhance and impart confidence to all of your recording performances
  • Experience in-the-box recording “through” the Neve preamp in real time using Apollo Twin, Apollo DUO or Apollo QUAD
  • Add Unison technology to your Apollo, controlling physical mic preamp gain staging and impedance with Unison-enabled UAD plug-ins
  • Get the same unmistakable Neve sound found on countless records from the late-20th century to today

I guess if you already own the 1073 mkII, it's like you already have it right ?

Because the 1290 preamp is the 1073 without the EQ part.

I confirmed with Will the HPF is -18dB/octave 80Hz. Very useful, and no extra DSP required.

I've also found the top end to be a bit more open on the 1290 as opposed to the 1073 strip.

Does anyone know what the instance count is? Love using just the preamp section of the MKII without the EQ engaged across multiple tracks, however it still uses quite a bit of PGM which limits my instances even with DSP load lock disabled. It would be nice to know if we are able to get a high instance count without the PGM hit.

is it free for 1073 owners?

Just checked the updated instance chart. 56 mono instances on an Octo. Pretty good if you want that nice Neve sound across a mix!

This feels to me like it’s aimed at arrow users to help DSP usage. No idea how much usage compares vs disabling the EQ on the 1073 and having load lock on.

Not something I particularly want to spend money on (being a 1073 owner on top of so many other emulations), although if it included a class A summing amplifier section I’d be quite interested.....

Can someone officially comment on the difference in DSP usage between that new Neve 1290 and the 1073mk2 with the EQ section disabled? Will? Drew? Matt?

Thanks

Yes. The sound may be subtlety different, but you already have the equivalent with the 1073.

Hey Will,
Can you speak to whether this new 1290 is a complete emulation of an actual 1290 in its own right, or was adapted from the existing 1073 MKII code?
