UAD with nForce4?

Hello.

Im considering seriously to purchase a UAD Card in one Month.
Either the Expert Pack or the Ultra Pack.

My setup is as followed.

AMD64 4000+
2 GIG Corsair Ram
Cubase SX 3
M-Audio Audiopphile Firewire

but the Mainboard makes troubles in my mind its the
Gigabyte K8NF9 Ultra with the odd nForce 4 Chipset.

I've read much about problems with this Chipset.
Is anyone working with this Chipset? Are the problems away now or is it still a risk to get this working with an UAD Card?

I've also read about problems with the M-Audio Cards...?

In case I could work with my current mainboard. Are both of the UAD Cards working with this Mainboard or only the normal PCI Version (Ultra Pack)?

And what would you buy in general. The Ultra or the Expert Pack. I mean, the Ultra Pack has mostly all the good FX onboard right from the beginning, but maybe I would miss something (like the Neve EQs?) on the Ultra which I then couldn't buy aditionally for the Ultra.
So maybe it's better to buy instead the Expert Pack with the 750 $ Voucher? Or ist the worth money value more with the Ultra?

Many questions, but hope someone would like to answer these. I will appreciate a lot, since I'm then also an UAD Maniac :D

Cheers,
Nico

My experienc is:

nForce4+UAD=PAIN, more PAIN, more and more PAIN

While experiencing PAIN, making music is more difficult.

I currently use an ASUS A8R-MVP. It works great even with the latest UAD driver.

The secret behind the Radeon Xpress 200's south bridge flexibility is its use of PCI Express for the chipset interconnect. Two PCI Express lanes are normally used to link the two chips, providing 500MB/s of bandwidth in each direction. If that's not enough, the link can actually be boosted to four PCI Express lanes using a simple BIOS switch. Doing so monopolizes all the PCI-E lanes available on the M1575, but still leaves 18 lanes free on the north bridge.
The downside is that, I think nVidia bought ULi...so the future of this board and others like it...well...it is cloudy...

But I don't care. It is MOBO to hold me over until I am convinced QUADS will work with anything but REAPER (I like REAPER, but still need my SONAR Producer and Samplitude Pro for certain things). LOL.

Okay, so with this board its no go with UAD?? I see, I have to buy another board instead.

Would be pleased to hear also your opinion on the other questions.

Thanks so far,
Greetz,
Nico

I have an Asus A8N VM CSM with NVIDIA GeForce 6150 + nForce 430. After emailing UAD they told me to buy the UAD-1e, which has no problems with this chipset. And it was true. My uad works fine.

I suggest you email UAD with your mobo specs to confirm if a UAD-1e is the one for you.

Thanks for your fast reply ROUDOS.

The only thing I consider about your solution with the UADe Card is, that I better want the whole bunch and buy a UAD Ultra Pack with 14 Plugins.

Cause if I calculate correctly I couldn't get that much Plugins if i would buy the UADe Expert Pak with only 5 Plugins from the beginning and a 750 $ Voucher in comparison to an UAD Ultra Pak with the 14 Plugins right from the beginning

Hm, I will ask UAD by Mail about my Mainboard, with the one I have now I could operate only with the Expert Pak (PCIe) as it shows up.
God bless I have time tille june to consider what to buy ;)

Well, if you can afford the Ultra Pak and you are 100% certain that you need all the available plugins for you to work properly, then go for that solution.

In my case, i couldn't afford the Ultra Pak so i got the express Pak and using the voucher i got the Fairchild 670 which i knew i wanted for sure.

After that, i tried the demo versions of Helios and Precision Limiter and these are the next 2 plugs i'm gonna get. Probably i'm gonna get them all, but in a time duration that the extra cost will not be an issue.

On the other hand, i preffer getting them piece by piece as my needs grow accordingly. I think if i had them all at once i wouldn't really know whch one to use for better results, ending up spending more time trying to find which one is better. But then again, they all are great. It's just that some are better/different than others for specific tasks.

And having all of them it would definitely tempt me to use them on every track in my projects, something that would be impossible because i have only one card. And then i'd have to bounce all the time or getting pissed that i can't use them while i have them or trying to find a way to buy more UAD cards, something that would create a new bunch of problems(mobo compatibility, pci slots availability etc.)

So, the conclusion so far is that i'm pretty happy with just the 6 plugs i have. I use Fairchild 670 for vocals and as master compressor and i'm totally satisfied. Whenever i need a UAD track eq, i use the Pultec. Perfect again. And realverb is amazing too. For kicks and bass the 1176SE is again more than ok.

So, i only need(for now) the Helios eq and the Precision Limiter for mastering.

The \"Less Is More\" kind of rule couldn't be more appropriate in my case.

No problem here with Asus K8N4-E Deluxe (nForce 4) with UAD drivers 4.5.0

(problems with 4.6.0 but probably not related to nForce4)

No problems with the A8N-SLI Premium, at least with my 3 UAD cards (2 PCI, 1 PCIe). I did at first have a problem with clicks and pops over firewire, which I resolved by buying a PCIe Firewire card.

Glad to hear that because my A8N-SLI Premium arives this week and I found out about the nForce UAD problems after I ordered the motherboard.

Wish me the same luck you had.
Thanks.

Bobby.
