UAD1 and VST 3.0 standard. Will it come a reality

I would like to know if Uaudio will be updated to VST standard 3.0, from current 2.2. I'm asking because the newest version of Cubase 4 was just announced and it can host plugins VST 3.0.

One of a great things about VST 3.0 is that the plugins can be used on per clip basis, meaning that if there is no signal coming into the plugin, the plug does not waste resources. In a system like UAD1 it would be very useful.

I don't think Steinberg has released the developer kit yet, but I'm sure as soon as they do, UA will be on it.

Hi Andrew, are you sure your real id isn't 'project'?

=)

no, but seriously. This is something that we have been discussing here. Project actually beat you to the first post regarding this. I think it would also be a good feature, I mean there's no question about it.

Looking forward to the upgrade to 4 myself. That and my 2 UAD cards, should be sweet for performance. I can already leave an open project with SX3 (loaded with a song ) + Reason ( loaded ) and without playing sits around 5-6% cpu usage. How much better can it get?

If I remember correctly from the Cubase 4 info, only VST 3 and VST 2.4 are supported by Cubase 4. No official support for older VST versions!

I assume if the UAD plugins do not work in Cubase 4, there will be a patch within days upgrading to VST 2.4.

Hi Cabbage, Are you sure?

that makes no sense to not support older vst versions.

Do you have a link for that?

One of the Mod's at the Cubase forum has been testing the new Cubase 4 and has posted that the UAD plugs work just fine within Cubase 4 as is with no patch needed..

They just say, pre 2.4 vsts might not work as every vst will work but, hey, if your old vst does not, it's your problem...

Yes, that's what I mean with "not supported" - if it doesn't work it is your problem.

This would be great for UAD and powercore...

This 3.0 thing would be a really great thing to have in many ways.

I'm actually surprised why plugins haven't done this themselves to date. If the input sample translates directly into the output sample (ie, no delays or reverbs, etc, but good for wavesahpers, panners, etc), plugin designers could easily save CPU by writing 0 directly to the output and not going through the whole process loop at all when 0 is detected on the input.

It's probably better that the host manage this, though. I hope that if we do get 3.0, UAD will write a 64-bit sample result directly back to compatable hosts. I gather you can hear a difference, and you can do this already in vst 2.4.
