UAD1 and Wavelab montage

Each time I load a plugin (PL) on a track in a montage of Wavelab, it adds itself to the total CPU usage, so even though I'm only using for example one PL on a track, the CPU usage may be 86%. This means that the usability of UAD plugins in a montage is very restricted.

I've seen this issue mentioned before, but has anybody been able to solve it?

Don't Understand.
One instance of PL causes one DSP load.
Having one on every track will add DSP for every track.

Can you please explain more details?

In fact, this is one of many many reasons why WAVELAB is so damned restricted in mastering allthough it calls itself a mastering program (LOL). I also have Wavelab but just as an editor, I do all mastering stuff in Nuendo instead (besides PQ editing off course)

Imagine a CD with 12 songs converted to a montage. Try to insert a PL in an effect slot on each song - you can't, because Wavelab (or UAD) acts as if you're using them all on the same song, so pretty soon you're out of ressources on the UAD card...

Can you explain what advantage you have with Nuendo in mastering over Wavelab? I have Cubase and Wavelab and don't see what advantage there would be. I get my two track mixes from Cubase and put it in Wavelab. I then master in Wavelab all the songs and save them. (Adding EQ, compression, etc. to each song). Then I put the songs into Montage and to additional editing, and then put them in the order I want, make sure the levels are right and then burn them and dither. The dither in Wavelab is improved over the one in Cubase or Nuendo.

You have to understand that Wavelab is treating each \"song\" in a multi-track montage just like a track in Nuendo.

If you loaded the PL on each track in Nuendo, you would have the same problem.

Are you using the Master section for the PL? This will solve the resources issue, but you will have to use the same settings for all the songs.

What I do instead, is open up and master each song individually as a stereo wave file, and THEN when finished rendering each song, I go into the Montage for buring and crossfades.

Well, there's not much merit to effect slots on each individual track then, is there? You have to understand that this doesn't happen with other plugins...

If you load the UAD plugs as clip effects rather than track effects, it usually frees up DSP when a clip is not playing, but it seems to only do so intermittently. And when I load any UAD effect as a track effect on any track, then DSP usage is as if all clips are playing.

Still, it's worth trying to use clip effects only and see if it helps.

I'm not sure I know what a track effect is..?

When you insert an effect in Montage, you can either use the drop down menu on the left panel of each track (track effect), or right click on a clip and insert the effect from that menu (clip effect). Clip effects don't apply to an entire track, so you can use different effects for each clip in a track.

I don't seem to have the option of inserting effects from the drop down menu, but I've only just started using the montage feature, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Anyway, from your description, clip effects is what I've been using all along.
