Ultrasone headphones, bad experience...

DON'T buy ultrasone headphones!! I did that mistake once but will not do it again! I bought the flagship model Proline 2500 and was waiting alot from the sound (I didn't have enough time to listen to them in the shop so I just bought them because I had heard good things about them). However I found out that the sound was terrible. Those things boosted the bass even more than my DT990 beyer's and the treble was spiky. Many materials hurt my ears when listening to them and I had to keep the volume down too because there was so big bass boost.

The worst thing about those headphones however was that they tend to turn every sound like coming from behind or some surround shit if the sound has tempered phase, chorus or something. For example I was playing my JP8080 supersaw strings and leads and with those ultrasone's the synth sounded like a crappy cheesy VSTi, like vanguard or something! Unbelievable! I couldn't believe how poor those headphones were! Beware, some materials which don't have stereo spreading, chorus or any other phase processing may sound mostly \"ok\", but if there is, the sound is totally crap and unnatural. Go for any other standard headphones without any surround shit.

Luckily, I managed to get a full refund of the ultrasone's and I will order either Sennheiser HD600 or HD650.

I just ordered Sennheiser HD650. I think I don't have to change my headphones ever again, maybe the ear pads sometimes and maybe the cable too but that's it. :)

600's here and I love em. Took me a bit to get used to the low frequency response though but now I can even mix in these cans!

Yeap, it was very plastic feeling with the proline 2500. In fact I managed to take them back just because the head band was so weak and it was misassembled and the band's cloth pad was on the loose. Strange that the price is still so high...

killer cans

All the Ultrasones have that spikey high-end. How did they ever get so much attention in the first place?

Morten, you may want to try 7509's, V600's, or V900's, all of which have larger ear cups & are much more comfortable to wear for long sessions. V600's sound pretty much the same as 7506's.

Well, I've never personally gotten to the point where I could mix on 'phones but, from what I've tried so far, the 7509's are the ones I trust the most. After reading this thread, I'm planning to give HD650's another shot.
