Universal Audio 2108

Bought a 2108 a couple of days ago and hooked in up in the studio yesterday. Tried it with ADK Hamburg Edition matched pair for drum overheads; OH MY GOD!!! Our kit suddenly sounded like a million dollars!!!

This thing totally rocks anything else I've tried!!! It blew us away!

It has tons of character, depth and a fantastic transient response!!!

Also tried it with a 57 on guitar cab; Ooooooh, yes!!!

I can strongly recommend this gem for anyone doing rock n roll, metal etc

noise from rack?!??!

?!?!?Que!?!?!

I have absolutely no idea; I usually don't tap the beat on the rack when I'm recording... Hahaha!

If it's really important to you I'll check it out tonite...

For me the main thing is that this pre gives our drum recording a whole different attitude and dimension. Everything sounds pretty damn expensive... ;)

it is more about \"possibly\" ruining a track by bumping into the rack as opposed to tempting the integrity of the unit's stability. even touching the knob (2108), or putting slight pressure on the knob would cause strange noises. so not only can i not accidentally bump my rack, i cannot alter the settings during recording. btw, the reason that i know about this is that i used to own a 2-610, and two 2108s. i contacted UA about the problems and received attention, but no real help. besides, i suppose my own obsessive compulsiveness just can't give in to \"sensitive\" gear. regardless if it sounds great (and UA products truly sound GREAT!), if i live in fear that my gear may glitch or ruin a track, that piece has to go.

now i have 12 channels of the focusrite 428. i love em. solid. quiet. and they sound great as well. now to find a handful more of pres for my front end. i had my eye on the trident S20, but now i am completely up in the air and not in a rush. anyone have any good suggestions or information?

Can't go wrong with a GR MP2NV. How about the API 3124+......I kinda love these :D What exactly are you looking for in a pre?

API 3124+..that's 4 pre's in a 1U rack. You can't go wrong here. The sebatrons I have never heard/tried out yet...It depends on what flavour you are looking for in a pre really cause they all have there own character that you might like or not like. A matter of taste I guess. Dakings, ams/neve, great river...so many choices.

For a lot less there's also OSA pre's and seventhcircleaudio pre's which for the most part need assmebly if ya wanna save some money and you are somewhat technically inclined, they are worth a try.

Try the API 3124+ first and let me know what ya think :D

Oh yeh, and BTW......hang on to that 2108 pre. It's been dicontinued, no more are being made. I guess they never sold well which is unfortunate because it is a good pre at a great price.

definitely keeping the 2108

Didn't know they had discontinued the 2108... Makes no difference to me; killer pre for the kind of drums we need!!! Not the most versatile pre I have ever used, but killer for metal and rock n roll drums!!
We also have an M610 as our main vocal pre; very nice, fat and punchy with a Rode K2!

Haven't tried tapping it to see if it's noisy yet; had to service it to change the LED on channel 2...
