Universal should release a PCIe + Magma solution in one

1) Imagine UA release a UAD-2 card - a single PCIe card with DSP on it - but this card also has an external connector...

2) Imagine UA also releases a MAGMA type expansion chassis for old UAD cards - maybe with 6 slots or so. It connects to the external connector on the UAD-2 card mentioned above!

With this kind of setup, all old cards would still be valuable - UA could sell more hardware, and we could get a UAD-2 with PCIe... ALL of the cards could communicate with the computer through the single PCIe slot... maybe this could even include the often mentioned \"Chainer\" plugin to create chains of effects...

I've been asking for UA to release a magma style chassis for a long time. It should definitely have more than 4slots too. As peep have PCI Soundcards that still work fine. :)

I won't be a UA customer again until they come up with a better card or go native.

UA does great software, but they really need to get their hardware development in order - what I personally would like is to buy a unit - dont care if it's firewire or ethernet or whatever, just something current please - that has a shit load of power - I'm talking the equivalent of 8 cards.

I would pay a grand for such a unit happilly if it NEVER EVER gave me an ERR-21, if the latency was halved and it always just WORKED.

Kind regards

I agree. Unless I can get a Magma or something similar for sensible money I won't be buying another card. I can only just about get two cards working in my PC (yeah, so much for the A8V being perfect).

Yup, UA should definately release an affordable Magma.

The Magma is priced at Pro Tools moon-prices. For what it is its an absolute ripoff. More expensive than a PC, without the majority of the PC bits.

UA would clean up.

My computer engineer friend and I were designing something like the magma chassis. we've looked at the magma and we got ideas and drew up sketches. our parts cost w/o the metal chassis is around $175 and that's with a $75 completely heatsink powersupply!! i can't imagine the chassis being any more expensive either. there must be a $800 markup on that ridiculous thing.

Definately agree on this one!

I just noticed that you can only run 2 instances of the Space Echo on a card... me thinks I need another card or two, but unfortuntely no room in my pc - eek! :(

It's a ridiculous markup.... The chassis basically nothing but a bunch of PCI slots....

it's the host card :) The patent is what we are paying for......
this is easily a $500.00 solution.....

All these things would be cool, but.... I don't think UA has invested resources in a \"foreign\" area like the chassis :-(

My jaw hit the floor when i looked to see how much magma's cost!
its still there sitting on the floor...

I agree with you Toader2, All we really need is PCIe to PCI bridge chip. I don't see why this has to be such a complicated deal. TO the system everything is the same, since the Bridge chip does all the necessary conversion. Why not make it possible for all the customers with PCI Magma's to be able to just plug into the PCIe card. It would see like a very workable solution to me too.
