Updating older UAD-1

I just dusted off my DAW that I built in 2002. I put in a new Asus P4P800SE MOBO, a gig of RAM and two 80 gig Seagate SATA hard drives. I reloaded my OS (Win98SE), loaded Nuendo 1.61, my Delta 1010 and loaded the UAD driver from the original disk. Everything worked fine. Then I downloaded the 3.9 driver for the UAD-1 and installed it. Now I have no plug-ins showing up in Nuendo.

I backed up my OS before I took the last step, so I can run it with the original driver, but I would like the increased functionality of the newer release. Is there anything I might have done wrong to cause this? :?:
Just for point of reference, I have been building my own computers, and some for friends and family, for 6 years... but I am by no means an expert. Just scratching my head cause I don't know what to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, Win2k and XP are SO much better than 98 that I can't imagine you regretting an upgrade. And if you bought all that hardware new, you may be able to get an OEM copy of XP from the same shop which will only cost about £60.

Or perhaps you installed the plugins to the wrong folder? Happened to me once as I just clicked \"next\" and installed to the suggested folder; \"Steinberg VST plugins\" when it should have been in the \"Steinberg/Cubase/VST plugins\"

I specifically downloaded the newest version that claimed to be for 98SE.

The problem with going to XP is two-fold:

1. Every XP computer I have used is extremely slow at getting things done. Booting and shutting down are so slow! Opening something as simple as the control panel takes several seconds. Mine snaps right open.

2. All my software is from 2002. Nuendo 1.61($1,200), Cubase VST 5.1r1 (? I think it was $400?) I guess my Delta 1010 would cross over alright, and the UAD-1 also... but this system, so far, is way beyond anything I will need for recording my own demos. I can't spend thousands to start over. Not to mention the learning curve.

I just ran one of my songs with about 12 tracks going, and put realverb pro on several of them, and my CPU meter barely lit up. I am very happy with the new MOBO, RAM and hard drives... way beyond what I expected.

Anyway... All I did was run the update program right over what was working, and I got no plug-ins listed for UAD. I restored my system from a backup, and it works fine with the original drivers in.

I'll keep tinkerin' with it. Thanks.

It's a pretty board statement and one that does not seem all that accurate. For example... what configuration settings were in place on the xp/2000 machines, how much memory, graphic settings etc... perhaps these machines were not tweaked as much as the one you own.... lots of varibles that come into play when considering the speed and potentail capabilities of a system...

I for one have absolutley no problems with xp. Maybe you are using shitty computers?

I don't know how you installed XP, in the past, but should should always do a a reformat & fresh install of a new OS. I have had WinXP Pro installed on my 6 year old DAW, since 2001. Never had a problem being slow and this is using a slow PIII 1Ghz/512MB DAW.
I am in the process of finally retiring my ol' workhorse and just using it for my general internet use. I'll take my (2) UAD-1 cards and Delta 66 out and use them in my new x64 DAW build. I should be in high cotton with my blazingly fast Conroe e6400 Duo Core/ASUS P5B combo! :p
