Userva, 4 GB, P5W, 4 UAD-1's = headache

I installed an extra 2 GB into my Asus P5W DH, tried the 3 GB switch at 2500, but XP only see 2 GB of RAM.

The kicker is even when I switch it to 2900 (and thus, disabling two of my cards), XP *still* only sees 2 GB of RAM.

Anyone running the P5W getting more than 2 GB to show up? Any BIOS settings I need (other than to enable the remapping, without which the BIOS only showed 2 GB)?

I'm going to do a dual boot of Vista 64, so it's not a complete waste, but I was hoping to at least pick up an extra 500 MB of RAM to use in XP.

I've got my 4 UAD-1's in a Magma chassis, and I also have an X Fi soundblaster (for gaming) in the machine, too.

Am I just screwed here?

OK, I continue to talk to myself here, but here's the update.

I tried the /PAE switch, and it doesn't seem to affect anything.

\"Physical Address Extension\" does show up on System Properties page in the Control Panel, but it still only lists 2 GB of RAM.

Anything else I could try, or does this mobo just suck in this department?

I have the same issue here, 2GB getting appropriated.

If I remove the Magma, I get 3,2 GB (800Mb appropriated). Haven't found any way to get more than 2GB when using the Magma.

Strange thing is that if I remove one 1GB module, I get 2.5GB, but then it change the dual channel mode to single channel, which is a big decrease in memory performance, so that's not an option.

Thanks for the reply.

A couple of questions:

Do I even need the 3 GB switch, at this point?

Do I need the /PAE switch?

Am I gaining anything with either of them?

Will the system still run without the switches, but with the 4 GB installed?

I don't have the 3GB swith or the PAE. Can't see any reason why, since the BIOS only reports 2GB memory to the O/S.

I have all 4GB installed, but can only take advantage of the extra 2 when booting Vista.

I think you'll find the Asus board has a BIOS setting for something like \"64-bit capable operating system\" which needs to be set to ON to expose the full 4Gb.

Let me know if you can't find it and I'll dig out the exact name and location in the BIOS.

Ciao,

I think I found what you're referring to, something about remapping. I had to enable that for even the BIOS to see the full 4 GB. But I did that already, and it didn't change how much the OS sees. If there are other settings in the BIOS I'm missing, please let me know.
