VirutuaVia PCI Express to PCI Expansion Box

Hi there

Does anyone know if the VirutuaVia PCI Express to PCI Expansion Box
works with UAD PCI cards going into a Mac Pro (PCIe)?

I can't post the link...

UA have not tested it, but there is a claim to it working with UAD cards on the product page.

It is a lot cheaper than Magma alternatives...

Thanks in advance

Up !

I can't post the link but I found it on Virtuavia website, just type it in Google.

Really cheap...but does it work on a Mac Pro with a UAD-1 PCI.
I'm about to buy a MacPro and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a Magma chassis, because I have only one card!

So if anyone knows a little more about this adapter please let us know :)

i have that chassis with one card in it and one card on my main board.

I ordered another UAD and awaiting for it to arrive in about a week. I will stick it in the chassis and report what happens here!

I was pretty interested in this box for my forthcoming MacPro upgrade and bookmarked the page a while ago - but now the product seems to have disappeared from their website?

I wait for your report.

It's still on virtuavia.eu.
As a new member I can't post the link but type \"PCIE1X2PCI\" in Google.

It's not a box, it's a card that plugis into a PCIe slot, then the PCI card plugs into that. Not sure how that works with cards that have connectors on the back, butthe UAD-1 doesn't. I have a feeling you might have to remove the plate off the back of the UAD-1 card though, again, not sure.

If these work they will be a great solution, but will not provide you with additional slots as a Magma would.

just tried the link - the 4 slot chassis is back on sale. Does anybody have one loaded with uads ie more than one?

by the way - ive emailed ua with a request to test this chassis more than once - had no reply. youd think that a big company like ua would spend a measley 200 euros - sorry 199 euros to test something that would greatly ease the cost to end users of their products. Just think ua - all you have to do is tell us that it works with mulitple cards and you'll get your 199 euros back by someone purchasing 1 - yes! 1 more card for this chassis. :p

I would love to know as well. It's time to upgrade the box and I would hate to have to flip all my cards.

Hi

I have a Mac Pro with 2 x PCIe cards. I also have a G5 with a magma chassis attached, and 2 x PCI cards sitting unused... So I bought the Virtuavia box hoping I could put my 2 x PCI cards to use as I'm running projects on the Mac Pro at 88.2 and 2 cards just doesn't cut it :-( Result:

The VV box cannot see more than 1 UAD card. I tried the two PCI cards in the VV, and my whole system became unstable - no UAD cards could be seen. I tried placing the two cards in the magma chassis and the same problem. One card in the VV or in the magma connected to the VV works.

So forget the VV box as a solution :-(

hope this helps!

Cheers
Chris

same problem here. but: both cards are detected in the box. there is only a problem occuring with the authorizationchip. i`ve mailed to universal audio. maybe there is a possibility to get it working on my mac pro.their support is really cool. i would never pay the price of a new magma. it`s not the pricecategory for musicians like me

I emailed UA support about the problem I had, and they were very responsive, but had no idea why the VV didn't work, and unfortunately couldn't help. Magma's are ridiculously expensive... I guess they charge what their core market can take.

In my case, 3 cards is definitely better than 2, and as some of the plugs are upsampled the count is the same as working at 44.1 ... but I hate freezing stuff - really hampers the creative flow :-(

Cheers

hi guys, this is what worked for me:

a) buy an old magma CB 2 or CB 4 chassis cheap on ebay
b) get the new ExpressCard hostcard from magma
c) it works with two uad-1 pci on an CB 2 for me, but only if "AMD compatibility" mode is enabled in the UAD-1 Meter Configuration tool, otherwise it will freeze your computer as soon as more than 1 card is used.

this applies to both mac and pc.

cheers,
franky sun
