Hi, I am about to set up a home/project studio, I posted already a preamp/converter question. So far the setup will be in my home, PC with Cubase SX3 and UAD-1 cards, RME Fireface 800, an additional decent 2-channel pre (Neve Portico 5012 is atm my thought) and Genelec 8040 monitors. It is mainly to record my own stuff, but with the future perspective to record other artists and offer affordable demos for younger bands. Now I am asking for help in choosing vocal mics.
My own material is rather rocky style, somewhere between Pearl Jam and Creed. I will sing myself, but also my wife. My voice is not too high and not too clean, a little bit nasal maybe - to give you an idea, I can imitate two bands's singers almost perfectly, the Counting Crows and Fury in the Slaughterhouse (a German band, maybe you know it - their webpage is http://www.fury.de and they have samples of their songs there). My wife is a slim small Indonesian and she has a very beautiful, kind of intimate voice - she can sing gently but also surprisingly aloud alike, but most of the time it is quite \"airy\" or \"breathy\". What microphones would do a good job for our vocal recordings? I can spend about 700 to 1000 GBP on mics in the nearer future. I guess with 2 good vocal mics for our quite different voices we have also a good choice then for other singers to record.
Every suggestion what suits that kind of music, voice and preamp fine is appreciated!
