Volt 276 vs Apollo Twin

Hi,
I was wondering if there is any difference in the mic pre audio quality between the Volt 276 and Apollo Twin? I’m thinking about moving to the Volt from my Apollo Twin but worry if that wouldn’t be a downgrade sound-wise.

I don’t have specs for you but I would keep my x4 which is similar and not go to the volt.

Quick followup question to this post. I currently own an Apollo x4. I need two additional inputs. I know you can't daisy chain two desktops units, so adding an Apollo Twin won't work. Can I add a Volt 276? I don't need the two additional inputs to be Unison preamps. Can a Volt 276 work alongside an Apollo x4 to record 6 inputs into Luna simultaneously?

Not if you want to use ARM and be in Apollo mode. You have to use Core Audio and aggregate them… so you loose a lot of functionality of the x4…
Best thing would be something with adat out and connect it to the x4 via adat.

Ok, great! I did a little extra digging and that seems to be the consensus method with the ADAT. Something like the Scarlett 16i16 I think should work. And this would keep all inputs in ARM/Apollo mode in LUNA?

Looks like it is class compliant, so I think I could use the Scarlett to record audio into my Akai MPC One+ as well.

Thanks!

Or maybe an Audient EVO SP8? Would give you 8 preamps… for 12 total inputs…

They are dramatically different. The Volt is just a plug/play easy to use unit. The Apollo does quite a bit more, but it's more difficult to set up, and of course there is the DSP. BTW, if you go Apollo, be careful not to just get the cheapest one for DSP. I had a solo and though it was an excellent unit, it ran out of power pretty quickly.

OH, though spec wise there is a difference between in "sound quality", some people can't hear the difference. I'm older and though I still have good ears I couldn't. There has been some debate about it. I find most cards to sound great no matter because in this day and age DAC converters are so good and ubiquitous.
