Waterfall B3 not working with my MIDI keyboard

So.. the waterfall B3 organ always worked with my usb midi keyboard. All my other uad instruments work with it.. no problem.. but now every time I load up waterfall B3 the midi keyboard doesn’t work with it anymore. I tried it on another Mac just in case but same issue.

what gives?

using iMac (Big Sur
Apollo Twin MK2
Alesis Q88 MK2 keyboard
Luna DAW

I just tried it here and it seems to work OK.

The ShowMIDI utility from here is really helpful in sorting out what/if MIDI is flowing... https://uwyn.com/

Sometimes I find that setting the MIDI input to another device and then back again helps.

I load different instruments on the same exact track.. like Electra 88 or Mini Moog or Raven and they all work perfectly. It’s only Waterfall that does not respond to my Midi keyboard

I just don’t get it.

I’ve reinstalled waterfall and did all the updates and it still behaves the same.
The plug in works when I use my mouse and click they keys on the plug in .. I can hear the organ.. but not with my midi keyboard

Thanks !

How about in a different DAW?

Based on what you're saying (in particular that it makes noise when you click the gui keys), I wonder if your keyboard is transmitting on a specific midi channel and the Waterfall isn't receiving on that channel. Waterfall has three "tracks" i.e., upper, lower, and pedals, each of which has its own midi channel assignment (see attached). If you are transmitting on only one channel and it's not one of those, no sound. If you're transmitting on the lower or pedal channel but only the upper's drawbars are pulled out, no sound.

A lot of instruments that are not multitimbral don't care about what channel the midi is on, but Waterfall has to.

I've had issues in Luna with my M-Audio controller. I have to power it off and reset and then it works. I thought it was more likely the cheap controller, but maybe it's just a Luna issue.

I had the same problem but I found a solution today. This worked for me: Go to Global Setting in Waterfall. Change midichannals: Upper manual 1. Lower Manual 15. Sustain 16.

Yes, and if that doesn't work then also check that your MIDI controller is transmitting on one of those channels.

Do you happen to know what channel the foot-pedals should be?
If you mean for the organ notes played by pedals, default is channel 3 (see my screenshot above) but you can set it to any channel. If you mean expression pedal or if you're triggering Leslie speed with a pedal, that doesn't seem to matter.

Ok well I got it working I think.. I reinstalled waterfall and now it only works on channel 12. No other channels work. Sustain pedal works
I had tried every channel before with no luck. So weird. Luna seems very unstable now.. been using it since it came out with great results. Nothing but problems lately. Now I’m getting “error code -38” every 10 seconds. And DSP usage issues.. even though my DSP is below 20%.

Re stability issues: that's...super not normal. Sorry, but I can't for the life of me imagine what's causing it.

Re the MIDI channel: what you are describing is 100% consistent with your Q88 having been accidentally set to transmit on channel 12. It doesn't necessarily matter since you've found the channel, but it might be an issue in the future for other multichannel instruments. Per the Q88MK2 manual, you can reset to channel 1:
"change the channel the data is sent using the following method:
1. Press the Advanced button to engage Edit Mode.
2. Press one of the 16 Channel keys (D2 to E4), according to the Channel that you need."
If you do this and use D2 to set to channel 1, does that make it so only Channel 1 works for Waterfall's upper manual?

This is where I would do a complete uninstall/install of UAD and Luna, following the instructions for your system.
