Sure did and they sound awesome. very warm sounding. Gate is what I have been missing, and mix buss comp is wonderful.....

Finally a Mix Bus Comp. Although URS is cool :) This one sounds much better.

Keep the analog button punched in at all times... SOunds beefier that way...

Just did. the 1970 is a neve so no need to waste time with a comparison. The 1980 is the SSL version and the Waves version sounds #1 warmer and 2 a better model of the VCA. The 1980 is a little loose sounding to me.

Are you able to provide some mp3s please so we can hear how they sound (with a dry file for comparison)? Thanks! :)

Just saw it advertised for $599 with free shipping. And then with my 5% ASCAP discount?

Hmmm....

To wait for UAD-1 Neve or not? I love the sound of both types of boards, but I have ----way---- more personal experience with SSL.

I've been fooling with the Waves demo, though, and it's...
a) a real CPU hog (as expected)
b) REALLY good. I mean it makes a -very- noticeable difference

...and I am ----soooooo----- sceptical about all this crap.

Suntower, simply get Voxengo Marquis Compressor and use its T3 mode (tweak release contour params to 0.28 to get the SSL mixbus compressor timings).

The Voxengo Marquis actually does a fantastic job of bus compression in T3 mode. The sound is clean, very detailed, and powerful.

I actually liked the urs much better . The waves lost the punch and clarity of the original . This is on a quick listen on my computer monitors . I will listen in my studio once I transfer the files , but I can still here the difference .

Here's an 'SSL' preset I've matched to one of the real SSL audioclips (posted on the recent Gearsluts comparison thread):
http://www.voxengo.com/temp/Marquis_SSL_Matched.fxp

It's a bit more sparkling (switching to the Clean coloration mode removes that additional spark).
Interesting, yet still no mac version..........Yawn..... Thanks Waves for releasing a Mac version :)

CPU hog? I've heard from the others that it's rather efficient. What kinda system are you running?
That was my Question, I have been able to run a mixture of mon and stereo up to about 18 of these before my processor hit 60%

Here is Aleksey's updated Marquis, to better match the SSL in T3 mode:

Here's what I've got finally (had to change a couple of math ops in the T3 algorithm, though):
http://www.voxengo.com/temp/VoxengoMarq ... _setup.exe

And the according preset is here:
http://www.voxengo.com/temp/SSL_Real.fxp

It's as close as it can get I suppose (tweak attack and release for better match). Hopefully it's not better than Waves or UAD, or their approach will not be looking serious.

By the way, that was an 'experimental' beta v1.2.3 - changes I've made may not go to v1.3 release.

Speaking of that comparison...

Comparing 'full mix', Waves sounds very close to the original SSL file discussed on the Gearslutz forum (and you may study the peak-to-peak behaviour - ratios Waves's and SSL's peaks are almost identical). Probably, URS sounds better, but is not as much close to SSL sound (URS is too pronounced).

Waves version has a somehow different coloration - a bit muddy it seems and a bit edgy in comparison to SSL. But I suppose this can be the difference introduced on DAC/ADC stage, so nothing to complain about.

Anyway, who said SSL makes best compressors in the world? :) Just a marketing hype and 'bigger-than-native' bucks for Waves IMO...

Which compressors are supposed to be 'great' beside UREI 1173, SSL 4000 and some Neve (which UAD goes to make) ? Probably some remarkable ones are still left to model?
