Webzine 01/2006 Mastering guide issues

I've downloaded all the sample clips of the mastering guide of the Webzine 01/2006.
I wanted to listen the differences between the files and imported them into Cubase SX and sorted one below the other track by track.
I soloed each one and listened.
But on each track execpt the last with the PL there seems to be no change at all.
I flipped the phase switch of \"Original\" and soloed one after another each equalized track together with the original: ZERO LINE!
Only the PL track showed a difference.

No fader was touched, honestly!
Is there an explanation for this, or a mistake at the UA-server? Or do they want to sell us something through imaginary psychoacoustic effects... :?

I really wonder about the wisdom of trying to use MP bloody 3 to show and demonstrate subtle changes.
Another great example are the W2/W5 reverb demos at Wizoo - you simply do not hear how good the thing is.

Have you actually tried using the presets, on uncompressed material?
MP3 is one hell of a shitty format for trying to demo this stuff.

Haha! I haven't checked that out yet, but if you get a complete \"NULL\" when switching the polarity of the original against the other processed files it has to be a mistake made at UA. As you know... getting a complete NULL is the proof of the two files being exactly identical down to the last single bit.

Sorry, but the demos at UA are uncompressed WAV downloads.
I haven't checked the resulting waveform yet by rendering the phase-reversed result, but the output meters don't move a single bit!

@Plec: Mistake at UA. That's the way it seems to be. Can't imagine, they've published intentionally 4 times the same file

Ah.
The presets.
I did download these, but they won't load into the PEQ, the PMB or the Pultec Pro either. Nothing at all loads up. each plugin stays resolutely on the default setting.

Apologies about getting the filetype wrong. Unreservedly so.

The article seems to be an early April Fools maybe?

@ Eurocide.
I understand what you were originally talking about, and apologise for the hijack.
I wanted to point out the presets in that article don't work either.

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the confusion, we're working on fixing these problems. The correct files should be up in a couple hours or so.

Thanks,

Dave Crane (from the NAMM show floor!)

Cool! That is a great mastering tutorial, BTW. There are even many non-UAD-1 users reading it just for the mastering methodology and tips. Hopefully, the first of many more UAD-1 plugin tutorials to come.
Still great exposure for the UAD-1 and it's mastering suite. Should create some additional sales for sure.

Hey, LIVE from the NAMM Show! Are you guys showing off the Precision Mastering Suite? How about demos of the long anticipated Roland Space Echo?

Hello all,

The audio files have been fixed, but the preset files will have to wait until later today, not sure what is going on with them...

More of these tutorials will appear throughout the year in the webzine.

We are showing the RE-201 right now, and the Precision Multiband. It's been a great show so far!

Cheers,

Dave

I am looking forward to them as I am sure most of us are.

I wish I could be there. Too bad you could not post a little pre-release NAMM show teaser video of the RE-201, in action, on the UA website to wet our collective appetites. Just a thought.......

I was quickly perusing the mp3s online and only the first and last files play. All the files in between exhibit nothing but white noise in the right channel.

Tried with both Safari and Firefox.

Ditto! It's still not fixed either. Too bad the demo files are all messed up. It turns an otherwise great article into something less than flattering, for UA. :?
