Weird problem with Sphere L22 - have to keep the fan on

Hi, I’m using a Townsend Labs Sphere L22, which I’m running into a UAD Apollo 8p.

Having a really weird issue. I hooked up the mic to record today and everything was working.

Thought that was it and turned off the fan so there wouldn’t be any ambient noise while I recorded vocals.

Weirdly enough, the L22 stopped working properly. It would work for about 5 seconds, then the signal would just die and wouldn’t come back for a prolonged period of time. This happened intermittently.

I checked the cables I was using, including the 2-to-1 cable that is used to hook up the Sphere. I then checked whether the inputs on my interface were working. Everything was as it should be.

I was about to give up, and turned on the fan again because it was getting hot, and suddenly the Sphere started to work again. No dropouts, no disconnection. Recorded properly as well.

Just to check, I turned off the fan again. Sure enough, the Sphere stopped working.

In the 20 years I’ve dabbled with audio tech, this is the first time I’ve come across a problem like this. Worst of all, it is preventing me from recording, unless I record with the fan and then use something like C-Vox to remove the room noise.

Anyone have any ideas what’s going on? The Apollo 8p is hooked up to a UPS, so it is constantly getting power.

Thats got to be a power consumption issue of some sort.
Where is everything plugged in? Wall, power strip, power conditioner?
Ceiling fan, box fan, radial swivel fan, fan in a space heater?

There is a cheap easily found device, a socket tester, gpo tester, that plugs into your power socket/gpo and shows the status of the ‘trickery.
I’d start there.
