What about a UAD-4 expansion rack like this?

All I know is that I can run a lot more of the most DSP hungry plugins on my Powercore Firewire than I can on a single UAD-1. I know it has to do with how intense the modeling is... I'm just making the point that the Powercore is insanely powerful, and it's firewire.

This is just a simulation, but I shurely want to see something like this soon...

Hey guys, don't freak out, I just did this 3D pic to give and idea. It is not real, yet!

- 4 UAD-1 card expansion rack
- PCI, PCIe, Firewire, insert whatever you like here
- Card status on front panel

Just deaming.

Perhaps I neet to put some ventilation grids on the front panel, humm...

Yeah I really like the look of that.

What would be cool would be getting the PCI cards out of the case and slotting them into a rack unit like that, then hooking back up to the PC via firewire

Cool picture Peter. 8)

What's even better is UAD users could tell all the analog gear snobs that we use the external, \"hardware\" versions of the LA2A, 1176, Fairchild, etc.

I hope UA is checking this thread, this is great feedback about what their users would like to see.

Owning 3 cards I'm also waiting to buy another card until we can get the whole picture about this. The bad thing is that this problem is stopping me from update my P4 2.4Mhz to a new Dual Opteron system, just because I don't like the Magma solution, those expansion racks are far to noisy.

Peter Holmquist
Peter! I am in exactly the same boat as you. I have 3 cards, and would like some more DSP power.

I am waiting on a UA announcement before making any decision as to what to go for.

I don't really want a magma either. I'd rather spend the money on a new generation UAD card/box/whatever.

It's a waiting game I guess :)

LOL! Excellent artistic rendition! If you draw it, maybe it will come!!

It is a solid idea though.....especially if they could make it cost effective compared to buying a magma chassis. At those magma prices, it's like throuwing good money after bad! A matter of fact, even if they have to meet a certain price point, they can include some additional dsp power with the unit by default.....say the power of 1 or 2 cards (or 1 or 2 cards already preloaded)!

Now as far as the artistic rendition, the only thing I could suggest adding is an analog style meter to measure dsp load or \"tube saturation\" :)

Probably you missed the 5th post on the first page of this thread. There are two other options with silverface front panel and digital performance meters. There is also a UAD-8 rack capable to house 8 cards !!!
