What is the best SSL bus compressor clone in hardware for you?

Stam audio? Warm audio? AudioScape? Audio Heritage? Wes audio?

Thanks!

Can't say what's "best", as not only have I not tried them all, but I can't define what "best" means.

BUT, I built a DIYRE G Bus compressor. (You can buy them pre-built as well.) Has a myriad of features that don't necessarily exist in other compressors of that style. For the price, you can get ALOT of functionality.

I don’t know but if I was shopping for one I would just get the ssl one, it’s not significantly more expensive than the clones!

Hello, if I am not misinformed, the current SSL Hardware product is "The Bus+" Is it the one you say?

¿This?

I’m sorry I meant the 500 series g bus from ssl, I’m not sure if they are currently producing a rack version

Looks like Behringer is getting into hardware bus compressors starting off with a 33609 clone. Who knows what else they have in the works.

They’re going to release a dual 1073 pre, it’s called the 1273 💡

Thanks, I knew that but I'm looking for something "glue" type and a double 1073 I don't think is what will do the job.
One that really appeals to me is the Tegeler Creme RC.

But I'm asking around here... Stam Audio products have a good reputation and, in terms of quality/price ratio, I think they are winning...

I have the Warm Audio Bus Comp and recently the HA Successor. I have now decided to use the HA Successor because it gives me a little more color and, above all, has a blend option.

I can't say it's better or not, it's more a feeling that the HA Successor suits my needs a little more.

Heritage doesn't have a SSL comp. They have a 33609 and 2254. Asking for clones I guess the current SSL ones (bus+, 500 series, even xl) or something like an Alan Smart C2 are too expensive?

I would not go for a warm audio or cheaper, not worth it, plugins are a better option.

I had the Stam. If you want to know what it sounds like, listen to the UAD SSL Bus Compressor MK2. Mine was the base model, the upgraded transformer models probably sound cooler.

The Alan Smart C2 is good. C1 is cool in its own way but is a lot different from the SSL.

I built a Serpent Audio SB4000 model with upgraded everything a number years back and it’s fantastic.

I don’t think they sell the kit anymore and perhaps it ended up becoming the DIYRE one? I think it was a kit based on a design from one of the OG DIY forums.

I’ve actually been given Stam and Warm stuff to try a few times and didn’t really like much of it.

Got the STam SA4K mkII here and it's great - especially for the price compared to other similar units
I have no experience with them (yet) but Audioscape would be my next option to look into if I was wanting something else
there are lots of good choices these days so that is in your favor

I use the SSL Bus + and it is quite an amazing bus compressor. Has a 2 band Dynamic EQ section + 4K console saturation/color and the overall tone you can achieve is fantastic.

It does the classic SSL bus compressor thing very well, but it goes far beyond that if you want it to. One of the best pieces of outboard gear I’ve ever purchased.
