What type of EQ to take some low end of drums

I got a song and the drums sound good but a little tightening. Abit too much low end. What would you guys recommend to take off some extra low end?

That's a pretty vague question and hard to say without actually hearing the drums anyway. Have you tried using a gentle HPF in conjunction with a low shelving cut? Which drums in particular have too much bottom? Find out and tackle the problem there or subgroup them all and EQ.

It is mainly on kick drum but I am using EZ Drummer so everything is already mixed.

I can upload a link with a sample clip.

To clear up drums:

Maybe use cambridge or PEQ...

Try sweeping around 200-500hz. find the spot and pull it out.... it probably be around 280-320hz
If it's your Kick and you can EQ that... try the above on the kick, rather than the whole kit.

That's only one of many things I could suggest, but I can't hear the material. So I'm making a blind suggestion.

I'd say figure out where the problem is, is it the overheads? the kick?

a downward expander can be great to tighten up a kick sound if that's where your problem lies.

If it's in your overheads, I'd give it a little bit of pultec love around 200/300 hz range. Not much, just a little. You don't want to thin your overheads out too much, just enough to get the BS out.

Granted... I haven't heard what you're working with, but it's at least a starting point.

Not sure what sequencer/host you're using, but EZ Drummer can send each "mic" to a different channel. Click "Open Mixer" and look at the bottom where it says "Output". It will say "Trk 1" by default for all channels, but you can choose a different channel for each, or group as desired.

Then you can EQ the kick and room mics separately, which are likely the offenders when it comes to low end and EZ Drummer.

As for which EQ, my vote is the 1073. HP at 50, low shelf at 220 cutting very slightly. Probably won't need to go past the first dot to the right of the starting point.

I think I understand your problem if you're talking about the default EZ Drummer kick. It needs a lot of cleaning up in the subs since it's very extended below 90Hz. Basically a good HP filter like in the Cambridge would get you in the ball park.

Also, a side effect of the Neve buss comp and the Fairchild comp will be a reduced sub bass, should you already be using some sort of drum buss compression. Two birds, one stone etc...
