What's the "best" way to Record through the Console?

Here's my goal :)

I want to Record a Track on LPX, and while Recording, I want to be able to Monitor my UAD Reverbs/Delays/etc. Plugins, but not burn them as part of the recorded tracks (so I can experiment/edit later with Plugins on the recorded track in LPX).

So do I use the Plugins as Inserts on the Console, or do I use the Plugins on the Aux Channels on the Console?

Record the original track from Console inside your DAW and put plugins you are happy to print as inserts on that channel in Console, then send it to an Aux and on that Aux put the plugins you want to monitor only (verb/delay).

Mute the main track in Console and monitor the Aux track - blend the monitoring effects as you see fit until it sounds good to you.

(You can also use the 'Mon' mode - blue light - in Console to just bypass inserts on any one track, but with verb/delay you want the stereo sound, so use the Aux track).

But also -- seems like a perfect way to use the "UAD MON" button in Console to me? That way you will hear everything that is going on (all plugins) in the Console while recording, but NONE of the processing of those plugins will make it to LPX. (They will be "dry" tracks that are recorded in LPX). This option is super simple, easy, and fast.

Check out PAGE 105 in the manual about those Global Effects buttons here:

I’m trying this in stages :)

Thanks!

When in the UAD MON is enabled, does that mean that whatever is enabled in the Unison Input is bypassed as well, or only the Inserts in the Analog Inputs and the Aux Inserts are bypassed?
