Whats the matter with this stuff? memory mapped I/O problem

Hi together.

for a client i build up a new audio workstation.

a nice silent case with a powerfull an silent Power supply,
intel original MainBoard with a 975 chipset,
lot of memory and harddiskspace in raid1 and for the better
compatibility \"THE GooD OLD\" WIN XP SP2.

and last but not least two cards, the uad-1 ultra and project pack.

without the cards the system runs nice and errorfree, with the cards
the system did not start anymore and for specification the system starts
but at the moment windows starts the 32bit mode (its the moment
when the big winxp logo went and the screen starts with the better
screen solution) the system stop...

the reason is that the two UAD cards use the same memory mapped I/O
like the grafic card... to solve the problem i checked the adress area
which is the same on uad and grafics, the area is D0000000-Dfffffff
but the problem is, that UAD stuff don`t move to another adress area
so i check now a different grafic card, the fist one was a msi silent with a
Nvidia 7600gt chipset the second one is a ATI with an 1650 chipset,
i thing thats more than the opposit but i did not work... ...t

this is the time to ask for some help at the uad HQ and for example in
this forum. i read a lot of iq problems and incompatible stuff like
mainboards or chipsets or.. or... or.... but hello....is there anybody at
home...

this is not a problem of the others this is in my humble opinion a UAD
problem. i dont have fun to give a hardware seminar but iam sure they at
UAD now whats up...

did anyone have an brainchild how it is possible to explude the mmI/O
for use as graficmemory OR to switch the mem area to a free segment
in space ( memspace)

thanks for your inspiration and help

Ah you must be the hitchhiker?

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question.

I believe it's more a windows issue.

The UAD cards each need to reserve 128-256MB of memory space, and still have enough space left over for other PCI devices, graphics card, kernel memory, etc. It seems your physical RAM is eating up all the free space.

The memory address you'r referring to (D000 0000 - DFFF FFFF), lies above 3.4GB in the memory mapping table. Considering the table only support 4GB, your machine may need more than 600MB of memory to support all the hardware and OS requirements -- especially when you consider some hardware/system devices may require contiguous chunks of memory.

How much RAM do ya have? 3-4GB using 3GB switch? If so, you should be able to use the USERVA switch to reserve system memory in your boot.ini file. If you have less, I'm unsure why windows would be attempting to map these devices so high...

Hi,
thanks for your answer, and ideas..
at the moment i have a bigger problem, full system crash
after a burnin test without the UAD - Cards...

after a check with an other grafic i start a burnin test for testing the
stress-fitness of the system after 4h the system switch the grafic to
powersave and the hdd led is permanent on...

this symptom stays up to a stripped system with board, ram, cpu and power...
i think the board is damage but tomorrow i check the cpu and the ram seperatly...

SO, thanks for the support, at this point i stop now and the client starts to make his luck with an other systemconfiguration...

nervermind but a bad taste is allready in my mouth, the UAD cards
with the very hot stabilizer on the upper left corner are for my understanding not a hardware fav. at my edu. i learn
that i fix heating with an other type of technic. in other words,
if a powerstabilizer goes to hot, i take a bigger one with less heating...
but its ok... if UAD build a in-pc-heatings they have a nice vicinity with
the other Room-Heating-producer inside PC

thanks and don´t panic...

I've had to put a babel fish in my ear to understand what you're talking about. Now I understand....

Just so you know, I've got a UAD-1 too using an IP35 pro mobo. I get conflicts with my gfx card too - they both want to use the memory range you mentioned earlier. I have 3GB RAM in my machine, and I am beginning to suspect that the combination of large amounts of memory, a UAD 1 and a 8600 GTS GFX card are the culprits.

I get blocky graphics (low bit depth; mouse pointer is a big white square; desktop is unreadable as the colour palette is totally distorted and makes the logon screen and beyond illegible. Just to be a bit more descriptive, I get corruption on the screen that looks "random" but I know it's "stuff" in memory, so ...

I remove the UAD-1 and everything is okay so I know there's a conflict with the UAD-1 and the GFX

I have not actually tried taking some memory out of my machine and uninstalling the drivers and removing the hardware and starting again, but I am beginning to get the feeling that it *might* work .... who knows! I'm running out of ideas .... anyone, HELP!!!
