Where's the idiot's guide to the crossgrades gone?

Sorry to be boring you all to death w/what is doubtless the same old question but could someone point me at the explanation of the crossgrade process I remember seeing somewhere previously  Just doing the panic order on a uad-1e before the end of the year now and trying to get my brain in order so I don't balls it all up at the last minute when the thing finally arrives! Currently running an Ultra Pak plus everything except the Neve stuff and wondering exactly where I'll be this time next week.

Many thanks for any pointers

Thanks Akis, was looking at that>it says all of your existing plug-in authorizations will work with your new UAD-1e card, although I take that this means those I bought extra to what was included with the Ultra Pak, ie I don't have to pay for my Roland plugs again but even if I go from Ultra Pak >Expert Pak I'll have to buy the Precision Limiter etc. Of course I can put vouchers etc towards them but that is the basic system w/ the new cards correct? Also, will I also qualify for the UAD 100 promo? I've mailed UA a couple of times but they're on holiday now.

thanks and best

No, ALL your existing licenses will work with the new card. When they say extra/optional etc. licenses, they mean any plug-in you can buy from their store, incl. the Studio/Ultra Pak plug-ins.

For every UAD-1e you buy before the 31st of December 2006 you'll get the $100 or $250 for the cross-grade and $100 for the UAD100 promo (if you already have at least 1 UAD-1 card) + whatever vouchers are included with your new card (Express or Expert Pak).

Really? Wow, so I won't have to use my vouchers for Precision Limiter, Plate 140, Pultec Pro etc...do I feel like I'm getting a deal? esp w/the great price I got from Jon at altomusic.com
Do I dare to think I might be able to use some of my vouchers towards some Neve loveliness...that'd be too good! btw the Expert Pak crossgrade offer is a $250 voucher 8)

Thanks, I corrected my previous post to avoid confusing others.

hmm, didn't even think about this, but everything that have been reading states that the promo expires December 31st.

I was thinking of doing the uad-1 to uad-1e cross grade for two of my cards, but if I purchase them today, I doubt I will receive them by December 31st to register them with Universal Audio.

I understand that UA is closed for the holidays . . . do you guys think it safe to assume that if the cards are bought before December 31st (but registered after) that all of the vouchers still apply?

I believe your dealer can send you the cards' ID's before they ship them - AFAIK, JRR does so.

One more silly question, a slight doubt that's tickling my brain in all this excitement: the reason I'm up/crossgrading to a uad-1e is as I said I'm planning to get a new Mac next year and want to take advantage of the current promotions. I have the Ultra Pak plus all extras except the Neves now. If I simply want to maintain my present suite of plugs and sell the older uad-1 when I can no longer use it, should I have ordered the Express or the Expert pak? I ordered the Expert and am now hoping I didn't spend unecessary cash :?

I believe you will lose the Ultra Pak plug-ins when you sell the card. In any case, it's not a waste to have purchased the Expert Pak since the plug-in vouchers will stay in your account even if you don't use them up right away.

OK, forgive me being dense, I'm still not 100% sure where I stand now, it's all a little convoluted even though I've read the transfer etc info at UA a few times now.

I have an Ultra Pak plus all the Roland plugs

I ordered an Expert Pak

All my Ultra Pak plugs will also work on the new card as if I'd simply bought a 2nd uad-1 card

When I sell the older card I can sell only with all or with no plugins, this includes the Roland plugs.
(selling the card plug-free really means that, with zero plugs on it?)

If I intend to sell the card with all plugs I should use the vouchers/promotions to replace any plugs I need ie Plate 140, Precision Limiter, as well as the Roland plugs I wish to keep.

Presuming the above is (possibly) correct, I'd be better registering the new card and using at least some of the vouchers before the end of this month to replace mission-critical plugs at the lower price.

Now I think about it, is the voucher in the Expert Pak box tied to that card or is it transferable? If so then selling the older card with no plugs plus the voucher would seem a simple answer.
People selling 'empty' cards must be a great deal for folks w/multi-card setups who don't need to upgrade.

Anyway, I tried to keep it simple, really I did. If someone would be kind enough to simply throw some yes/no in there it's be a great help. Thanks all

As I understand it, you can sell your Ultra Pak as a Project Pak and keep all your licenses. I don't see anything implying anything different.

Thanks Akis, I think you're right, but the 2 snips below from the UA page seem to contradict each other to some extent, and I'm thinking that if I want to simpy keep my plugin setup as it is and don't necessarily want to spend more money on plugs I should just have bought an Express Pak and sold my Ultra as a Project.
I really am sorry to keep going with this but it does seem to be less than clear from the info. available.

\"ANY UA UAD-1 changes to a Project PAK if you choose to sell it and keep your plug-in licenses\"

\"Therefore the UAD transfer policy is all or none, meaning you can either sell a single card with all of your multicard plug-ins, or no plug-ins at all.\"

Those 2 snips don't contradict each other at all: you can sell all your plugs or none with a card; if you choose not to sell them, the card becomes a Project Pak.

OK, so if I simply want to crossgrade to a pcie card and keep the plugs I have now, nothing else, would I have been better getting the Expert Pak or the Express Pak?

I had the same situation. I could get the Expert Pak (with $1100 in vouchers) or (2) Express Paks (with $600 in vouchers) for basically the same amount of money, from my vendor. I choose the (2) Express Paks, so now I have (4) UAD-1 cards in my DAW. 8) I have a ASUS P5B-E Core Duo MB that has (3) PCI & (3) PCIe expansion slots available. I could have sold my old PCI cards back to jrrshop for $200 each (and actually made money on the deal), but I am greedy and wanted more DSP instead. :)

You have to sit down and carefully evaluate your own particular situation and your wants and needs.

Thanks Billy....rats, that's pretty much what I didn't want to hear
If I don't really need the vouchers I could have got 2 Express packs and still had the plugins I have now if I sell my old Ultra Pak as a Project Pak. (right?)
Anyone suggest any options I may not have considered?
