Who uses the "magic mouse" with Mac?

I just bought one yesterday and it's.......weird. The thing I like about it the least is that being a glossy surface it's a bit of a bitch moving my fingers to do all the gesturing. Just wondering what others think. I have seen several vids about "you have to get used to it" but I think it would have been better if it was a little less sticky.

Yeah, I do too. Gesturing is still a mystery though, but of course it's new. Trying to watch vids on it but they seem to be kinda whimpy so far.

Yeah, that is a plus. It's odd, because in a world where battery life is mostly a joke, my magic keyboard lasts forever it seems, I'm guessing this is no different. Hehe, AND for some odd reason, Apple stuff usually is charged when you take it out of the box. (er, except for the ipencil, I had to charge that.)

What I had before was this was a Logitech "Lift". It was great but it's really tall and where I keep my mouse it was a bit tight. I like that that is not an issue with this. Still fiddly though just a bit. I know it's early but that glossy top makes swiping a bit of an issue. Also, sometimes, it does things I don't want it to do. I know, I know, get used to it ;)

I use the Apple Magic Mouse. It's actually my favorite mouse. I keep one in my laptop bag as well.

You do need to customize the sensitivity for your personal taste. I also always use "Natural Scrolling" because it makes more sense to my brain. (scrolling down actually scrolls the page down, etc.)

Yeah, it's great. It's weird too because at the very very first it's like "WTF with this thing".....but of course you stick with it and you get pleasant surprises. I'm totally used to it for the basics. It is strange that all the controls are not right at "mouse" for things like the scroll wheel and whatnot. But I pulled out the "ergo" Logitech for fun today and it felt strange in comparison already.

Still two things: That glassy/glossy surface is picky, and I don't get "gestures" yet.....I'll get it eventually.

I guess I really am an Apple "fanboi" now.......

You sure you mean "natural"?
Scrolling down making the page scroll down (toward the bottom of the document) is normal, not Apple's "natural".
"Natural" is when you scroll down, but the page or menu scrolls up (toward the top of the document). This is very unnatural to me.

Scrolling with my fingers should be just like scrolling with a scroll wheel, not the opposite.

Someone helped me understand the intention of "natural", as if you're pushing a page up to look at the lower parts. This isn't any way I've every used paper pages, so definitely not natural to me. It's tough to adjust to when someone's Mac I'm helping them with is backwards...er..."natural". ;)

Okay, @slamthecrank , I just flipped my mouse upside down to try to see any way you may have meant it differently. I guess it kind of boils down to whether scrolling is a scroll bar to you, or whether scrolling is like the Star Wars opening crawl (a text climb). The text is moving up to get to the bottom of it (backwards to me, but maybe that's what you meant). However, the scroll bar is moving counter to whatever direction the text is moving and counter to your mouse scrolling in the "natural" mode, which is what I base scrolling off of (scroll bar).

Sure, the "natural" mouse scroll is opposite to the movement of the scroll bar. But that means it is in line with how the content moves, which at least to me feels correct. When I scroll, I want to move the content in the same direction I am scrolling and I don't care about the scroll bar. It's like pulling down a...uh...scroll, to see what's higher up. YMMV of course.

It's interesting—I guess it depends on whether you think scrolling should move your view or move the thing you are viewing. I am more comfortable with the latter. I wonder what the percent breakdown is on that.

But what did you do for scrolling before Apple made it backwards a few years ago and tried to pretend it was the correct way? ;)
After 30 years of being on the internet I'm not easily swayed that the old way was always wrong, hehe.

Edit: come to think of it, I think that's the same time Apple started hiding the scroll bar when you're not scrolling...

Ha... I always change my scrolling to 'classic' scroll toward you is down, scroll away is up.

I took it back. It was disconnecting allot. And I never really could get tight control with that super glossy (and sticky to me) top. It had disconnected and I had the Logitech "ergo" still connected and was like "actually, I like this more".

It's funny, my "magic keyboard" never disconnects. Never. It's always just like it should be. Strange.

Haha...I was going to explain it until I read your last paragraph.....but you're right. In the real world, there's nothing natural about push a piece of paper up and down and keeping your eyes fixed.

i use macbooks and mac pros since 2002 (iBook dual USB, i still own this), and i can´t remember a time when i did not use "natural" scrolling on the track pad. it must be there much longer than "a few years"...

I love my logitech MX Vertical mouse. My wrist is better now. It can connect to three different devices with the flip of a switch on the bottom. It also has a button on the top to change the speed of the cursor when you need to be very precise.
