Why is it recommended to use the original power supply?

I lost my power supply.
Why can’t I get a power supply that is 12 V and is able to provide the ampere required?

i have Apollo Twin X

If it matches the volts, amps, and correct connector, no reason you can't.
Especially if you're already out of warranty period. Under warranty, don't do it as may void it (so if you fry it, not UAD's fault).
(I Don't for for UA.)

ac or dc and polarity must be considered

I was once of the mind that it didn’t matter about oe.

wasted a small amount on what by all logic should have worked.
This for a Roland organ module.
it didn’t work.
Tested everything, then rolled over and bought the Roland psu and whaduyaknow? Worked perfectly.

still to this day don’t know why the genetic psu didn’t work…… voodoo

but at least now I know two things…
1. don’t lose your psi.
2. buy OE if you forget 1

maybe the original power supply provides a clean electricity? Which makes the sound better.
does anyone have information about this?

If you don't know how power supplies work, best to buy replacement from Sweetwater, Vintage King of other dealer. I got second one from Sweetwater for one of my Apollos after running over power cord several times (the thin one) while moving stuff around in old studio. Worth it to be safe and sane. My thought anyway.

What is the polarity of twin x?

what do you mean by psi and oe?

thanks
. polarity ..north/south, negative/positive. Happy/sad, artic/antartic. These are al examples of polar opposites .
Your direct current has a positive and a negative, and on a generic 12v dc adapter often at the end you plug into a device there is option to flip the plug,ie reverse the polarity so what pin was positive is now negative. The polarity is a reference to which pin on the plug is positive or negative.

Psi should be psu sorry, auto correct…
psi is pounds per square inch…irrelevent,
PSU power supply unit, wall wart, transformer etc
OE is Original equipment

I agree with Neotrope, without meaning to be patronising, if you don’t understand ac/dc, polarity and amps, don’t start learning with an apollo, could be a costly learning curve.

I've been using a Twin with a generic PSU for a couple of years. It's never been a problem. The UA PSU has a locking plug, which is pretty cool, but otherwise it's a normal PSU.

Apollo Twin X has a special barrel connector that can lock into the socket of the interface. I think it is also a bit smaller than the regular barrel connector. The original power supply delivers 50,4 watts, this is also more than the common third-party supplies deliver.
Considering the original power supply costs 49 € and you are risking to fry a 1000 € interface, and considering your technical knowledge: Please do yourself a favor and order the original power supply for your interface.
Best regards, Ron
