nothing like a first post being a bitch and moan!!

seriously, i love UA and the 3 UAD-1's i have.

but why didn't they make the PL and the MBPL dual mono??

seems like a no brainer to me... a switch to be stereo or dual mono.

hey UAD-1 developers.... can we implement this in 4.2 or 4.future??

PLEASE!!??? dual mono is the shiznit!

DO IT!

Could somebody please explain (or link us to an explanation) of the difference between true stereo and dual mono?

Why would a dual mono facility on the PL be an advantage?

curious

Dual mono means that each side will react separately. In true stereo, these compressors compress both channels equally even if one side is louder than the other. I don't think a dual mono mode could possibly be of any use in mastering but you could probably do some interesting stuff in a mix (in which case asking for dual mono versions of the other leveling amps would be better). Isn't the Fairchild dual mono?

So why not create 2 mono master faders in your project assigned to left and right respectively, gang the faders (group function) and insert 2 mono PL's

Giles has good advice...

BTW, technically dual-mono limiting a master is bad... but no worse than multi-band-compression... i.e., it's personal opinion really.

The SonicTimeworks Mastering Compressor is dual mono, and it sounds awesome! The MD3 can also do dual-mono, and it's the best out there!

Good to know! I used to be a real fan of the SonicTimeworks & didn't ever realize it was dual mono, I guess it's one of those theory vs. practice things.
