I was on Gearslutz from about 2004. It was very blokey.
I think the name mainly became an issue when they started to make serious money from advertisers and they wanted to encourage more female participation. It just wasn't a good name for marketing and the advertisers.

They were making plenty from advertising long before they changed the name. A few feminazis complained, made a change.org petition and Jules caved (after he said he wouldn’t). Who cares. Ancient history. Call it whatever you want, I type in gearslutz and it gets me to the site. Everything these days is a philosophical hill to die on. How drab a world we created. These people would have simply all jumped off bridges 30 years ago.

But there is nothing wrong with more female participants. Quite the opposite. As everywhere in the audio sector, they are unfortunately underrepresented. I often find the collaboration in these projects better and more effective.

There simply is no one group that has all the right answers. Sanity is usually in the middle somewhere. Sadly, the groups are so dug in no one listens to one another and the squeakiest wheel tends to get the grease.

nothing wrong with women obviously, truth is that most of them just don't share men's passion and hobbies (the opposite is true too), changing "gearslutz" to "gearspace" was just another useless and ridiculous move that western world is used to, that's all.

Oh wait, that didn’t happen at all. All they did was sell one less model pedal and no one cared. Meanwhile if Reverb is any indicator, my pussy melter pedal that was made by another company anyway is now worth about 1000 bucks. MSRP was only 200. Funny how these things work. It typically isn’t. It even extends to what people think they are or want to be. You have to use someone’s preferred pronouns, regardless if they match who they are.
