• Welcome to the General Discussion forum for UAD users!

Please note that this forum is user-run, although we're thrilled to have so much contribution from Drew, Will, and other UA folks!

Feel free to discuss both UAD and non-UAD related subjects!

    1) Please do not post technical issues here. Please use our UAD Support Forums instead.

    2) Please do not post complaints here. Use the Unrest Forum instead. They have no place in the the General Discussion forum.

Threads posted in the wrong forum will be moved, so if you don't see your thread here anymore, please look in the correct forum.

    Lastly, please be respectful.

WOW, these guys at Fabfilter are cool!

Again a nice alternative to the 1176LN, it has what i was looking for! So UA, wake up! It has a kind of future GUI, it has a cool sidechain feature, it has different compressor characteristics and of course it can sound like the famous black, much sought-after vintage comp. :D

God bless innovation and intelligence :D

That may be the most glorious looking compressor I've ever seen. I'll try the demo soon I think. It's all about the sound.

As to your UA wake up call on the GUI, that's not UA's thing. They're vintage lovers and vintage compressor modeling is what they do best.

I agree! But the Cambridge (one of my favourite) is a modern plugin that goes beyond the possibilities of most 1:1 vintage emulations. And that's what i like. Vintage sound is okay but why should a digital copy have the same limitations as their analog counterparts? Why is there no 1176LN V2 with sidechaining or a miditrigger? And IMO even the Antress crap (1176) looks better than the UA 1176 GUI.

UA make great compressors, but for most of my mastering stuff I have to use other compressor (plugins) simply because there's no highpass or sidechain on any of their emulations. Which is a big miss imho!

I hate compressors and Eq's with super fancy gui's that have a bunch of meters and crap I dont need. Who needs a graph of the compression knee or RMS gain reduction or other obscure measurements? Nobody.

I'm not knocking Fabfilter at all. I own Volcano as well as Timeless, both of which are fan-freakin-tastic sounding. The gui on that compressor is right in line with their design scheme, but a fancy knob a great compressor does not make, eh?
Plus I dont see where you get that it's an 1176 alternative per se, any compressor is an 1176 alternative.

You should have just called it an 1176 KILLER!

you woulnd't be saying that if his name was Peter North now would you!

As I said, please take it elsewhere next time.
NO! It's on the right place! I love UAD plugins but IMO there's always space for improvements. I want UA to compare and to develop new stuff that has a touch of innovation or future. What will they do if all the vintage stuff is already emulated? Nothing? Some day they will be forced to create new, non-vintage plugs! I'd like to see some fresh hightech-digital tools with the features of the 21st century and a GUI like... Star Wars consoles! :D

I hate when a bunch of low post users start threads about non-UA products in the Gen-Discussion forum. Take it to another website or, at the very least, the Anything But forum.
...because we obviously have a huge amount of diverse and updated topics that are all about just the uad-1 every day???

I thought this topic interesting and on topic personally :)

Like a futuristic GUI will make things sound better....DUH!!!! Use tools because you need them, not because they look fancy

I never said that...?! BTW, what's better? A girl that has a good character and nothing else or a girl that has a good character and a nice body/face?
What's better? A car that drives and looks like crap or a car that drives and looks like a nice sportscar? Both is important! You can only achieve perfection when there is nothing to complain! I like most UA GUIs but some meters look cheesy.

And that is why people have different opinions. You say in order to reach perfection, you need the meters of UA GUI's need to look better then best. I say that the average listener of music don't give a sh*t if a hit was mixed with fancy meters or not. So my advise, use your ears instead of your eyes. It will certainly improve your mixes

Not at all! Don't forget my mentioned V2, innovative, digital high-tech, Star Wars, advanced feature stuff... read carefully next time before you quote me in a wrong context.

Wonderful point. I don't know what I was thinking when I clearly stated that it should've at least been posted in the "Anything But" forum. Obviously though, if a topic is interesting, it should be posted here.
