X2/MSI K8N Neo2 works with UAD1!

FWIW, I got my neo2 X2 working as well - details:

http://www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/vie ... c&start=30

For me it wasn't drivers / bios / firmware. It was purely the Server 2003 Resource Kit filter installation and restoring my DmaTurbo registry setting to 1.

I can run it sucessfully under SP1 and SP2 XP partitions and it seems happy with either. (SP1 = music partition, SP2 = Web surfing and light music work)

Note that I had a perfectly running single core system XP SP1 that I only upgraded the cpu to dual core on - so YMMV since you may be dealing with other system issues that aren't dual core related. I didn't do a complete windows reinstall for the upgrade - just changed the appropriate drivers and made sure I was up-to-date on everything. So just letting you all know dreams can come true!

what are the win xp pro patches (the four dual-core patches/updates from AMD/Microsoft) that i need ?

could you help me and send me a download link or how they are named?
thanks a lot

I've seen several posts about gliches/etc when running an Athlon 64 X2 (dual core) with NF3 motherboards (in particular the MSI K8N Neo 2)... so I wanted to chime in and let you all know that it *DOES* work.

BUT...
You need to do the following:

I'm assuming you've already installed SP2 and the four dual-core patches/updates from AMD/Microsoft.

1. Get the absolute latest BIOS for the K8N Neo2
(beta in this case - version 1C3)
2. Get the absolute latest chipset/etc drivers for the K8N Neo2
This is where it gets a bit harder for the novice... as you have to search a bit... and nab updated drivers from several sources. I installed the latest Nforce drivers from the Nvidia site, installed a couple of updates from the latest NF4 drivers, and then nabbed a couple of updates (latest stable betas from Nvidia) from a 3rd party.
3. Get the latest BIOS update for your video card. In my case, it was a Geforce FX5200.

If you do all the above, the UAD1s will run glitch-free.
FWIW, I run a pair of UAD1s on my main studio DAW (X2 4800/MSI K8N Neo2/FX5200/2GB DDR)... and it'll run the plugins totally glitch-free under heavy UAD and CPU loads.

This process will get a easier (especially for the novice) once the BIOS/drivers are officially released. Until then, just be careful (have backups before starting the process) and find/apply the above updates.

The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is an excellent DAW motherboard (single-core or dual-core processor).
As of now, X2/UAD1 users really only have two choices:
1. Nforce 3 motherboards
2. Via KT 800 motherboards

Hope this helps.
