Hi
today I had a chance to test a Joemeek OneQ. I decided to do a quick test and compare the compressor of the OneQ with my Joemeek VC1 and while I was at it I compared it to the uads 1176LN, LA2A, Fairchild, EX-1 and logics own compressor.
You can find all audio-files (wav) and presets (vst) here
http://www.mokosound.com/temp/
About the test:
-the original audiofile is a boring drumloop with reverb and already with compression on it. Not ideal but usable. It's included.
-I only used moderate compression. I tweaked each compressor so that it exposed its color without killing the drums. Don't expect stunning differences. All levels are closely matched to avoid the 'louder sounds better' effect, which would render any comparision useless!
-the test is subjective (as are most tests). I didn't have much time and tweaked the compressors to my taste: no ratio/attack/threshold matched (see presets).
-the OneQ compresses more than the others. It was quite hard not to smash it & it handles smashing well so I didn't bother to make it more gentle.
Hope it is of use to some
cheers
