Hello everyone,
does anyone here have experiences with the "zero downtime option" from I lok?
Does it work in an emergency case?
Thanks for sharing experiences

Of course, in general, good quality flash memory, as in the ilok keys, does last longer and more reliable than the oooold gen 1 stuff. I think it was our pro tools 9 system if that tells you anything :)

I'm in hell over it right now. Luckily all my stuff was backed up in the cloud. You have to pay about 80 bucks for a new key and it takes about 2 weeks. AND the "temp" licenses are only good for two weeks from what I understand. You are really just better off buying a new key and transferring them over me thinks.

How did you all your stuff backed up in the cloud ?
I understood that you have your UADx plugins either in the cloud OR on an Ilok stick. I know, there are 2 licenses per plug-in, I use them both, one on a laptop with cloud authorization and the other one in my main studio (which is usually not connected to the Internet)...... here I use the ILok stick. I thought, if the stick is broken, the licenses on it are lost... (hence zero downtime to easy recreate them). Isn't that the case?
AND:
It is difficult to "calculate" which method (zero downtime or profilactically keep buying new I-Lok sticks) is the best.
How often should you change the Stick, every year, every 2 or 3 years? When will it break? Mostly in the stupidest moment....
Would you rather pay 30 bucks a year and if something crashes, another 80, or, say every 2 years 50 bucks and if the ilk Stick crashes, then another 50 for a new one and a lot of stress, because i think the process for reactivate your licenses from each manufacturer per Mail/Phone is laborious.
It's certainly also important whether you work for customers, have deadlines etc, or whether you can "simply" interrupt your work...

Not sure I can answer all of your questions. As far as the cloud goes, it's just happenstance that I can tell. All I know is I'm really happy that it's there. As far as how often, in the future, it will indeed be every couple of years for me, I don't want to go through this again. My ilok 2 stick is probably at least 10 years old. I'm plenty pissed that ZDT only allows people 2 weeks. FFS, it's going to take them more time than that to get it sorted :( But I'd look into this cloud thing, it's saved my ass big time.

I think the relatively low cost of getting couple of new iLok physical keys every couple years is worthwhile to ensure all my tools from UAD, iZotope, EastWest, UVI, (( ETC. )) are relatively safe. While some hate the keys, when I migrated both 5,1 cheesegraters to M1 Studios in 2022/23 relicensing stuff was relatively simple since the licenses are on the key and not having to "reauthorize" stuff. That saved me hours of time. $54 for a modern USBC key is not epensive relative to my investment in software and the value of my time.

Well, there you go then! I didn't know that.
Thank you, I have known this from the beginning but it makes you "lose" one of the activations of each product.

The point here is that it seemed like he had a cloud copy of all his stuff, his words were...

"Luckily all my stuff was backed up in the cloud"

Without mentioning Ilok Cloud, in that case I wouldn't have asked, anyway thanks @MaxTwang

Cheers.

You don't 'lose' an activation it just floats around in the cloud waiting for a machine to access it. As much as possible I use cloud activations and whichever laptop I'm using (Mac or Windows) uses the cloud activation. If I'm using both laptops then one uses cloud activations the other uses my physical iLok. I prefer not to use machine activations due to concerns about loosing those activations if a machine is damaged, lost, stolen or rebuilt in a way that invalidates machine activations - I don't want to waste the little time I have for music trying to recover lost machine licenses.
