Ok, So Pro Tools 11 is with us now.

SO UAD: What about Pro Tools’ AAX plug-in format?

UAD plug-ins will be updated to AAX compatiblity and will be free of charge to customers.

Great news. When ?

Since they will be AAX64bit - Do you think we will be able to run more plugins on our cards? Or will this update not affect DSP usage at all?

Makes no difference in processing in this case.

All UAD plugs within the next 180 days. Possible some will be released sooner. Not sure on that.

That means no purchases within the next 180 days of any plugins. IMHO UA had better devote their developers to work on migrating the plugins to AAX instead of creating new ones, hey , i am not gonna buy anything until it's AAX.
I might sell the whole rig (apollo) if it's a 180 days indeed. PT 11 is a lot more powerful , so the benefit from external processing power like the UAD is decreasing.

That seems a bit premature if AAX availability is your only issue. It'll probably take 180 days just to get all the inevitable PT11 bugs resolved.

Personally, i'm sticking with PT10 for a while until things have settled.

Why is that premature ?

I have tested PT 11 on my hardware and so far i haven't come across major bugs. I love the new version for it allows me much , much more processing power with the same hardware. Of course I use my PT10 for the current projects but i'd love to to take full advantage of the PT11 system as soon as possible. 180 days is a long time. Too long, considering the lead time.

Anyways, bugwise, UA audio is building up a negative track-record too, lately. I had to update my Apollo 3 times over the last couple of weeks, all bug related updates.

Yeah I REALLY want to go to PT 11, but I do use those UA plugs, I'm not buying any until they are AAX , I passed on all the deals in June, but I will wait. for UA, because I do like tracking with them

6 months for something they knew and had specs for for 2 years and promised to have out the same time as the PT11 launch during (NAMM Video)? Wow, that is very disappointing, I really expected this to be ready.
So the one company (Avid) that I never quite liked delivered a solid product on time and all the companies that I love dropped the ball this year... arrgh

You're assuming those specs stayed the same for 2 years in the software world? ha. Avid pulled a typical Avid move. They pushed PT11 out the door bugs and all after missing 3 (or more) internal release deadlines. The SDK provided to developers and the AAX framework itself also has bugs, so some companies can't get their plugs working as they need to be. I'm not saying that's UA's case, as I have no idea... Developers are being more than kind by taking the brunt of people's AAX frustration without naming Avid as the problem, probably because they want priority Avid support wading through the current issues. So people need to give plugin developers a serious break when it comes to PT11 and AAX 64. Most developers saw the "gold master" the same time you and I did. Even if they were ready, the GM could've been a surprise (as it was to the likes of Celemony, etc).

PT10 with UA plugs isn't broken. Still working along daily and loving the UA plugs as always. PT11 has some nice performance improvements for sure, but performance alone isn't a substitute to being without UA plugins ;) PT11 will have it's day in about 4 months; that's once it's out of public beta mode, probably about version 11.0.4 and most plug developers have been able to catch up.

Toontrack Superior Drummer just released AAX 64bit!
If UA, Slate and NI follow I'll be rolling with PT11

Days since Avid put the last nail in the coffin for HD users and broke everything = 8.

I have 250 plugins that do NOT work in PT11. I have some that NEVER will.

I have no ill feeling toward UA here. Avid is the problem, IMO.

They were on the right track, but then decided to further screw HD users. I looked on the DUC and it's confirmed they intentionally disabled HD cards from working as CoreAudio under PT11. What's the point of allowing both 10 and 11 if you can't use both?

No clue. I saw the writing on the wall last year and went HD Native and have been thrilled. TDM rig is collecting dust.

Either way, that has nothing to do with AAX and the transition to 64.

Sure it does. Don't you remember PT10 was the bridge?

There's a reason everyone was dragging their feet about going to AAX and Avid clamped down harder the more they saw support was faltering.

PT11 IS the right move, just dreadfully mishandled. Developer reports are AAX is a nightmare and Avid makes it harder than ever to even get dev kits out to the smaller companies trying to migrate to the forced transition. Avid is making the transition impossible for some. Hell, SSL is even looking like they will not be migrating. Avid is doing everything wrong, IMO. Their stocks and company transitions seem to back that up. This all started with the HD10 fiasco...
