Had a recording session over the past weekend where I used my own Victoria 20112 amp (essentially a tweed deluxe), then had to do an overdub late this afternoon without access to my Victoria. So, I used the new UAD amp... see if you can guess where the punch in/out is. :D

For reference, the Victoria amp is mic'd using a Sennheiser md409 and a brand new BeyerD M160. On the UAD plugin, I used the closest I could find to the sound. The track was then bussed to both an EMT140 and Oceanway Studios B.

The acoustic is a Martin D18, mic'd with an AKG414 and a Neumann 102 (the tiny little bugger with a big heart).

That was great. :)

I couldn't tell where the punches happened. I've been playing tweed and brownface Deluxes for 25 years and have built dozens of them, I really should have been able to hear it.

btw, Theme2 is awesome. :)

I listened through twice, using my Shure 535 in ear headphones and I could not hear the drop-ins. Really enjoyed the track.

wow, thanks guys. That's really kind words about the playing (probably going to redo one section again still).

It was kind of a 'trick' to figure out the punch(es) because there's more than one.

The first punch in is from 0:31 to 0:36 ... and the other one is the very last chord b/c they wanted a descending slide chord and I'd initially only played a chord that stayed on the open D tuning.

I'm super impressed with this plugin. If I isolate it from the acoustic track, I can hear the punch in/outs, but the tone is pretty fantastic in my opinion. I had to mix the two mics on the plugin with a lot of emphasis on the Beyerdynamic and also mix in the "mic volume" on the amp up to about 1.5 to match the tone of the Victoria b/c I'd used a jumper lead to use both inputs on the real amp as well. :)

Also, that acoustic is untreated except for an 1176 taking 2db of GR out on peaks. No EQ. Just those two microphones. I think that's why whenever I hear someone deride the small neumann tlm102 I get kind of defensive hahah. They do sound good. :D

Here is the FULL mix with vocals etc. I kept the punch in's from the UAD 55 Fender Tweed Deluxe, everything else is Victoria 20112.

More details on the Soundcloud page.

I'll probably remove the track in a few days (just for reference). :D
