I also must say the low frequency’s are a bit more extended now and the Mids sound a little bit more forward and the tone of the high frequency’s sound smooth and creamy. Thanks to all the guys here and on the Townsend Facebook user group for sharing there experiences with this pre and the L22.
    Me like!

    Now me want Dual 1073mp!

    Ug!
Apollo "Silverface" Quad Thunderbolt 1 / "Trashcan" Mac / Studio One 3.5.1 Pro / '73 Precision bass

And, Ray Brown's "Holey pegged" bass - from the Oscar Peterson trio. That baby is now doing classical orchestral duties, and nicely, too!

Anyone tried a Great River with this yet ?

It's a bit punchier/tighter than a 1073, but still very meaty, interested to see how the L22 likes it.

Was able to get my hands on a B-Stock mic. They say the only issue with the B-Stock is cosmetic, something about the color being off, excited to check this out in my next session.

I've used the GRs lots with Sphere. It's my go-to at the studio. Apollo 1073 is my go-to at my home or portable setup. I usually have one Sphere with me wherever I am and the other always at the studio.

Man oh Man! Now I'm REALLY wanting a dual BAE 1073 - if it's really as amazing as you say!

Please talk me out of it, Zion!

By the way, any chance you compared the BAE to the Voxbox? I've been using the Voxbox a lot on vocals lately, and love the magic it brings. How do these two compare?

    Cheers!

The Vobox sounds great on many things including the L22. I’ve never heard the Hardware but it’s hard to compare the Voxbox plugin to the BAE Hardware unit. It’s apples and oranges but I can tell you this the L22 will be used exclusively with the BAE-1073MP but if desired I can always add other plugins in addition to the Mic Pre.

Thanks for your assessment, Zion - much appreciated.

I was kinda hoping you would talk me out of buying the BAE - but now I'm wanting it even more, dang!

    Thanks again for your assessment!

FYI the UAD 1073 MKII does get close to the same sound. The BAE is just darker and warmer.
