I’d love a pair of these and I’d say that once I’ve tried one I’d ditch my real ones
I talked with Erik Papp yesterday at NAMM and he said it should work fine given the detent settings on the EQ and Comp. Running the calibration is a 30 sec process. Set your input and output gain and then match the second channel as close as you can and run the calibration. It should automatically adjust to within a 1/2 dB. There also seem to be some new native models in beta that might help ease disappointment over UAD and OWC.

I want to tell a short story to illustrate how fantastic Townsend Labs is. I was an early funder and received my L22 in the first distribution. Due to an number of issues it set in its case for months. When OWC was released I knew I'd dallied much too long and wanted to demo it for the Christmas sale. Much to my consternation, I couldn't get any signal out of the front capsule and after multiple cable and input swapping concluded it just wasn't working. I called Townsend Labs and they immediately reminded me that as an original funder I had life-time support on the L22. Then they shipped me a new unit when they concluded I'd adequately trouble shot the unit. Didn't charge me a dime for deposit or shipping, just said to let them know how it worked out and send one or the other back to them.

I also asked Erik about the spec matching if I wanted to get a second one and he said not a problem ... just call them and ask.

    Wow!

Calibration mode is really brilliant. Routing the front capsule to both outputs so you can be sure they get the exact same gain! AND the reason for the LED lights. When in cal mode, they flash, so you don't accidentally forget to turn off cal mode.

Manual says you don't have to calibrate when using UAD Apollo as interface because you can manually set the second input gain to match the first. With that being said, anyone tried calibration mode works with UAD and find it works better?

I have recently completed a test of my own for one of the Polish Music Tech Magazines. I love the mic. I have been playing around with it as well as with the Slate VMS1. I'm pretty sold on this new concept, and though my locker keeps getting used for the multi mic projects, I am at present using only the L22 for all my vocal recordings to see just how far I can go with this. I am loving it so far.

Correct. Apollo's digitally controlled analog pres make it perfect for Sphere since it guarantees precisely matched gain will be applied to both capsules.

I was referring to how calibration mode allows you to use two separate pres that aren't linked/controlled like an Apollo.

If you put the mic calibration mode with an Apollo, you should simply see the exact same signal with the exact same gain going into both pres.

Thanks, Drew. Your answer is spot on.
