Really?! I don't doubt his word. I guess it could be my preference for the sound of my funky Orban over the smooth AKG as much as a hardware/software quality difference...but I've only kept the plugin in the mix once or twice, though I do think it sounds very cool.

I love the UA BX20. It now ends up on at least one electric guitar track on every song I do.

You could do a lot worse but I'd sure prefer the Orban. I think UAD should model more spring reverbs.

I think that is pretty much the Roland Space Echo territory. That's mostly what they used back in the day.

The AKG is more smooth for days spring--think more of a Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" or Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" or a slow baritone guitar soaked in it type of vibe. Instant moodiness instead of the sproingy, surfy, reggae/dub sound.

The Black Keys and The White Stripes use a lot of it as well.

I do really love the sound. I just wish the decay time went a bit shorter.

I'd also be well up for a springier sounding spring verb of the same quality.

It would be nice if they could do a mkII version of the Space Echo and really make the Spring reverb in that better. It has a pretty short decay time. The one they have now is decent, but I think it could be improved upon sonically.

I haven't used a real Space Echo in a long time, but whenever I have demoed the Galaxy Tape Echo (the UA Space Echo) it just doesn't seem to have the depth or character of the real one to me. Maybe their test unit was just different than the one I used.

Geez. Now I am going to have to revisit the BX-20. I always just go to the emt140 out of habit. But I will reconsider.

I have been known to put the UAD AKG-BX20 promo video on loop, just because it has that nice warm dark sound...
