I asked Paul Frindle and he said it isn´t do-able just yet. Would love to have one though.

Wow, yes, that would be supremely cool!

How about adding in a realtime spectrum analyzer display underneath the curve like fabfilter pro-Q ?

watch this vid , at about 1:30 in ...

now that's supremely cool (even though music doesn't match the screen manipulations)

I know you're supposed to EQ with your ears, but I want it anyway! if nothing else, its a great learning tool.

IK Multimedia has one, but it is a costly package.

Regarding modern classic vintage stuff, I´d go for some emulations of Focusrite Red Series, Avalon or dbx.

I'm seeing it for about $500 dollars. I don't think anyone can bring something like that to market much cheaper, considering that :
A) It's a hardware/software solution. The mic may not be flattering musically, but it does need to be manufactured to a consistent and reasonable standard so that the software can rely on the accuracy of it's readings.
B) The small group of people it will appeal to. Home studio owners -who probably make up a huge portion of the market at this point - don't tend to prioritize room quality over something like a good reverb. If you're only going to sell 10k units, as opposed to 100k, you need to recoup that R&D cost somehow.

One problem with the cost is that you'll set it up once, then possibly never use the mic or analysis part of the software again. Too bad it can't be an arrangement where you rent it, analyze your space, then get an impulse response that corrects whatever issues you have. You'd then keep the IR and return the product. Probably hard to make any profit that way.

FYI - If you want to DIY something along these lines, a CALIBRATED mic can be had for less than $50.

There's an active community of speaker building DIYers who were using a similar behringer (yuk) but they have them calibrated for an extra $50.

KRK just introduced ERGO - an all hardware solution ( no plugin to turn off when you render your mixdowns

Pretty close to what you're looking for.
thanks for reminding me about that one...

I just installed the demo. Its not as pretty/sexy as FabFilter but seems to have a decent sound plus DYNAMIC EQ and Harmonics generation. Aleksey /Voxengo has some very useable plugs, but the doc is sparse. I'm confused about the dynamic EQ part, since it says its not level dependent (?). Can someone explain that ? How similar is that to what the Precission Mulitband Compressor can do ?

(not to mention that the Voxengo is half the price @ $99 - I may owe them one since I use their freebie MS and StereoTouch plugs a lot )
