It will install and works but is completely unsupported so you're on your own if you try. Just an FYI.

Just downloaded the update on my MBP M1 (16GB, 1TB SSD) and functionally, seems to be working great. There's some mild visual artifacts on the plugins in console, but everything is responding as it should. Also tried software monitoring in Logic/low latency plugin mode and it worked too.

I still have an Intel MBP that I plan to hold on to for a couple more months, but going to try and have the M1 be the daily driver for my upcoming projects. Overall, it can handle way more plugins and processing within a session & now being able to use the UAD stuff with it is a game changer. M1 is also so silent; I have an album I'm working on with some 200+ track sessions and I have yet to hear the fans come on. I was very disappointed w/ the noisiness of the Intel; it's so loud that I had to reconfigure my home studio setup to be able to get clean recordings (many artists I work w/ tend to sing on the quieter side).

TLDR - Overall, it seems solid so far, but I wouldn't sell all of your other gear at this point if you choose to migrate.

WOW! I'm still on my trusty 2014 iMac running Big Sur and waiting for an iMac Pro with next-gen Apple Silicon iteration. Those are really great news!

Waiting until UAD goes native and then I'll upgrade my whole system.

Drew, is a control surface/interface (like the old Digi 002) in the plan? ;)

That’s awesome!!!! I know this is like hours after the update release, so i hope you can revisit this thread and re-update after a project use and see how it all went in an actual scenario.

Thank you!

So far so ok with Arrow - my Intellicopter has taken off and flown away. Sweet silence...

To add everything is going through a CalDigit TS3 Plus for me.

I think i may return my Mac Mini intel (order coming in tonight), and purchase a M1 since this seems to be working. I know i may be limping until a native m1 release, but based on the m1 vs intel it may be worth it.
Currently i have no mac at all, so it will be either the intel receiving tonight or a new m1 order.

Intel cost = 1499$ with ssd (1tb) & 32gb
M1 cost = 1299$ with 1tb and 16gb which is still faster

Nah. You won't be limping along

You need to go into recovery mode and change the security settings
I managed to start the installation now, but it's been writing package scripts for like 30 mins now. How long did it take you guys to install?
Or is it still a security issue?

been doing the scripts for an hour now. starting to feel like something isn't right. I guess I shouldn't be supreised because officially it's not compatible, but that fact that it works for you guys makes me thinking I'm doing something wrong

I figured it out eventually. Avid Link was secretly crashing in the background and my guess is because of that Rosetta was unable to complete the installation. Now it all works fine. Thanks for the help guys!! I'm actually impressed by how fast UAD released the BS compatibility upgrade. I was kind of expecting it around jan-february.

The collective whining worked.. corporations know that without its userbase, they will have no business. At this point, the pressure is to get Big Sur support and next is M1 support. I was really glad that it worked with my Mac Mini MI today, even if its still early and the Mini "can" be used to make music though its not optimized yet.

I think I will go with a 16 GB / 512 M1 Mini. I doubt the swap file / SSD wear issue is going to be a big deal in the long run.

Say you loose the use of a 5 GB swap file area on the internal SSD every three months. That's 20 GB a year. If you start with 512 GB, you'd still have at least 400 GB of usable space after 5 years. That said, I want the 16 GB RAM for future proofing. It seems more likely to me that RAM hogging programs might require 16 GB than swap file issues on the internal SSD.

I’m with you Scratch was pricing a mini tonight: hard to say no!:)

I doubt collective whining did much of anything except waste a lot of Drew’s time that could have been spent solving real problems, rather than trying to manage unrealistic expectations.

UA knows it’s products and how to do thorough testing: the wild card here was Big Sur.

Great that it’s released: frees up UA resources, so perhaps M1 certification can be accelerated?
