"No Devices Found" + flashing red light

Hello guys!

'Having issues with my newly purchased UAD-2 duo PCIe card - purchased last friday. I installed it in the manner specified in the enclosed document: first software, then hardware; I registered and activated the plugins and tested it. The card worked for two days. Then, after I booted yesterday morning, I noticed that the light was flashing red. So I checked the dock icon and it said "No Devices Found". I tried booting up two or three times and reinstalling the software, but to no avail. I opened the computer and changed PCI slot and it started working again. YES!!! Or so I thought... For this morning it started behaving the same way again.

My computer is a 2009 Mac Pro 8 core (Nehalem). I don't have any of my three PCI slots occupied except for the UAD-2 card. OSX version 10.6.8.

What to do? Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

This happens sometimes on my Mac. I have to power down and then it's recognized on restart.

I have experienced the same issue, did you find a solution?

I'm now getting this message on a Mac Pro 6 core.
It is a bit frustrating.
I've reseated the card in a couple of different slots, but often when I try to use a plug-in it tells me a device has been removed.
The Red light on the card flashes, 4 flashes, then after 3 or 4 seconds it repeats the four red flashes.

MacPro 6 core 3.33.
UAD 7.4 software, because 7.5 gives an error message right at the end of the install.

Any advice very welcome.
Thanks.

EDIT - Sorry- should have mentioned this is a new (to me) Mac Pro.
I have uninstalled the UAD software, uninstalled the card and re-installed- same problem.
I miss my 1172!

Hi guys, exact the same problem here. Computer is PC Win 7. Noticed when booting system, LED is flashing green and red , after booting everything works fine LED becomes green, UAD works as it should be. But when booting system LED is flashing only red it stays that way , and UAD Control Panel says "No devices founds"

I had the exact thing happen when I bought my OCTO card. Worked for 2 days then red lights and the card couldn't be found. I called tech support who after having me try what others have mentioned here and still no luck they ended up deciding my card had died and gave me an RMA and sent me a new card. No problems since.

Call them, they are very nice and really helpful.

Hi. i have this problem with my mac pro 6 core as well ,since being on mavericks osx , support told me thats its the card , so changed that ,then they said it was the motherboard , had it check all other pcie work ok , then bought another card so i have 2 ,and both play a dance of working then not working one by one , check the net and found problem other people are having with other pcie cards and it may be a kext pcie driver that controls the ethernet connections or something like that , some people have been taking the kext out of mountain lion and placing it in mavericks .
i don't suggest anyone do that btw. but i hope uad see this post and look into it as they told me no one else has this problem.

Hi Logicaldream,

We've definitely seen people have this problem, but most of the time it's turned out to be the card. They're stable in most systems. We are logging issues and trying to get more data about these issues, so I'll check with CS and make sure we've got the specifics on your system.

In the meantime, try keeping the Meter & Console app open behind the DAW. Having it open might help the driver from falling offline. You don't have to see it, just keep it open.

I hadn't heard about the PCIe kext, so thanks for mentioning that. I'll mention it as well.

Cheers,

The weird thing about this issue is it's randomness or broad intermittence. I have gone about 6 months with this not happening, but there could be that one day where I need to restart about 3-4 times to get the green light. Once up, problem solved until some other random day far off.

I have not come to any conclusion that there was anything unique in particular that I did before or while shutting down the session before.

Thanks GK for the reply, the meter app is set on in my startup page ,one thing i didn't mention is that someone said to me never shutdown my mac as this could cause a problem with the pcie bus if you keep starting from a cold machine ,so now i leave it in sleep unless I'm away for a few day or more ,since doing this the cards are fine.

Hey Logicaldream,

That's interesting because it runs completely counter to all of our recommendations about disabling sleep on your computer! ;)

I'm wondering if perhaps the contacts on your cards/slots in your machine have oxidized and maybe keeping them at a steady temperature with current running through them is helping to keep them online.

If you get a chance, maybe try pulling them out, cleaning the contacts and reseating them. We don't have a priority for our cards, so you can put them in any available PCIe slot. Swapping slots in the computer has helped some folks, but it sounds like it didn't do anything for Kwackman on this thread.

Operationally, you can try upping your I/O buffer size in your DAW. Instead of throwing an error -38, it might just be going offline, so that could help.

Lastly, it's also possible that your card has gone bad and needs to be replaced. It doesn't happen very often, but it happens.

Sorry it sounds like I'm guessing, but the cards are incredibly robust and should 'just work'. :) If all else fails, call CS - they will get you sorted out.

Cheers,

Hi GK, i have done all these things above . i have already replaced the card via dave in support but the problem was still there .so to check i bought another card ,so now i have 2x duo pcie cards , but what is strange is the old card now comes on 99% first time from a cold start and the second card only 10% .so i just restart and both most times comes on . its as if one of the cards is not read by the driver on cold startup?.

I will try and give the slots another clean but i know i have tried this before.
regards

I was in session at CDP in Burbank when a bunch of stuff happened at once, the KVM switch carrying the USB bus from the machine room to the mix stage went dead. On reboot, the USB bus came back, but my Octo card was not recognized (as exactly described in this thread). Mind you, I had a client sitting behind me and I was sweating bullets. A re-start did nothing. A shutdown and re-seat of the octo card got it back. All in, it turned out to be a 15 minute high intensity "break". Once back we got through the mix and stem printing. If (as suggested by you GK) this is a bad card, should I just go ahead and try to get it replaced?

Thanks

MacPro 6 core 3.33.
UAD 7.10 software

An update from my earlier post on this thread.

I moved the UAD card to the slot furthest from the video card.
It's still not perfect, but I now get the card recognised more often than not.
Previously it must have been about 50/50, but now it's more like 80/20 to better.
Not sure of that helps or clouds the issue!

MacPro 6 core 3.33 running 10.9.5
UAD 7.10 software

Had the same problem, then read this on the forum and it worked like a charm.
http://uadforum.com/uad-pci-pcie-cards/10935-no-cards-found-red-green-flashing-light.html

to reset your kernel mode permanently to 32 bit, I went here:

OS X: Starting up with the 32-bit or 64-bit kernel - Apple Support

I haven't had any problems since and the light is steadily on green. It was blinking red before, and I couldn't get the Mac OSX to recognize it.
Thought it was the card at first, but the fact that it was still receiving power and showed a blinking light made me think otherwise - as it was working fine for months before.
