It's generally not considered a good idea to use sleep mode with the Apollo. It's seems to be OK to sleep the monitor but not the computer or hard drives.

maybe it would be a good idea to fix that problem ... with audio devices from other manufacturers it works too....

Not exactly. The Apollo is different. Other manufacturers' interfaces simply convert a signal, from an instrument or mic into a digital signal, and send that to the DAW. The Apollo does a great deal more, because it is also running the plug-ins you choose - in its internal DSP.

Essentially the Apollo is a computer with its own, multiple CPUs (SHARCs). The Apollo is processing the plug-ins, so your computer doesn't have to. Thus the handshaking between your Apollo and your computer is more complicated than that of a simple interface.

The Apollo converts a signal, from an instrument or mic into a digital signal, and sends that to the Console software. Console then looks to see which plug-ins you have inserted, looks for the settings you have chosen on each of the plug-ins, and sends that information to the Apollo. Next the Apollo runs the processing of the plug-ins with its SHARC CPUs, then sends that signal back to the computer to go into your DAW.

The Apollo does a lot more work than does a simple interface, which is why there is not a problem that needs fixing.

And as Joe said,

It's generally not considered a good idea to use sleep mode with the Apollo. It's seems to be OK to sleep the monitor but not the computer or hard drives.

This is a long standing issue with audio recording in general. As far back as I can remember Avid has said that it wants sleep turned off when using Pro Tools ands I'm pretty sure that's the case with Logic as well.

Yes, and at the Reaper forum the message is the same - don't use sleep mode. I also found this mentioned about Studio One at gearslutz.

And if a computer should go into sleep mode while you are working on a track - perhaps you paused it to take a phone call - you can lose the track.

. but as you said: "the Apollo is a computer with its own, multiple CPUs (SHARCs). The Apollo is processing the plug-ins, so your computer doesn't have to. " - well, i dont turn off the apollo twin when i set the imac to sleep mode ....
so the apollo twin dont have to boot anything when the imac comes back from sleep mode - its fully working all the time....

and even if i turn on the apollo twin at a running imac then the interface needs about 4 seconds to be fully working again .....and i can use it instantly then.... so all you have said dont makes really sense to me.

Well Gannon has told us repeatedly to turn on the Apollo, then boot up the Mac. Then reverse the process to shut down. And to not use sleep mode. I'll have to go try it with my MBP to see if it does the same things your is doing. I know I have set the Mac to sleep with the Apollo running, but I never looked at how long it takes to get back into operation. "More will be revealed."

well i have test it- i can turn on and off the twin as often is i want as long the imac is running - no problems. tomorrow i will test it with logicx at an open session .. will be very interesting what happens.

but i cannot accept the issues if i only want to hear music with vlc or similar. if i turn or a mac with a running apollo twin - wake it up again and it takes ages to see a screen then something is crap coded or just buggy.... but im just one of so many apple users and its very surprising not to see many other users meantion that problem. besides that problem im a very happy user with the best interface and plugins on the market !
