Apollo Twin Distorted Audio On Windows 10 - Please Help

Hello everyone,

I have a Apollo Twin (Thunderbolt) hooked up to a new PC build for audio production (Specs Below). I'm getting digital distortion and small crackles at random when playing back audio through Windows as well as in Protools. It's important to note this distortion is not all the time. It seems to come up during playback while I use the computer. If I just let music play and leave the computer be it seems to not happen.
The unit functions as expected on my Macbook so I know its not the unit itself but something specific to the PC and its communication with the Unit. The noise does not occur when the volume is turned all the way down on the unit which means its likely not a grounding issue.
I could really use some help figuring out what to try next as I've exhausted my google-fu. If I were to guess at what the issue is I would say it sounds like sample rates being out of sync but I've made sure everything is set correctly.

PC Specs

Mobo: Asrock x570 Phantom Gaming ITX (Built in Thunderbolt 3 - I'm using the apple TB3 to TB2 adaptor to plug in the Apollo)
CPU: Ryzen 3900x
Ram: Gskill trident z 32gb 3200
GPU: Gigabtye 5700xt OC

Thanks everyone.

EDIT: I see you've already commented on that other thread about Ryzen and thunderbolt/audio.

Post back here I'd you find a way to work things out. I've seen numerous posts on gearslutz from Windows users planning to use this new Ryzen platform for audio production PCs.

UPDATE: On the advice of UAD customer support I bought a Startech Thunderbolt Adapter to try in place of the Apple one (don't get me started on why the apple one isn't supported). This actually improved the situation and I don't get the long phasey distortion that would crop up after playback for more then 30ish seconds.
However the random clicks and pops when do basic tasks remain. My theory is that these are being caused the AMD CPU and how it handles tasks. The clicks and pops seem to correlate with CPU usage and task delegation to threads/ cores. To get high boost frequencies AMD CPU's use a firmware system that is self described as "Opportunistic". Tasks are switched between cores so that each core can boost quickly to deal with bursts in tasks but the process of switching a task from one core to another causes a slight bit of latency. I believe that latency is whats interrupting the audio thread causing very slight pops and clicks. I responded to UAD customer support asking that they look into Thunderbolt on AMD based systems as I think this could be solved with a driver update.

Not sure if this is helpful or not but i was getting similar issues with my Arrow and Intel processor on a Gigabyte board.

Support told me to go into bios and switch off C-State(s)? and performance/turbo boost stuff associated with the processor....... it's worked flawlessly since.

Hi, I have Ryzen 7 2700, I have ordered an apollo x6.I probably have to change my motherboard because what I have doesn't support thunderbolt 3!I found that ony Asrock X570 itx have a thunderbolt 3 input. Is it a good choice or should I wait for new motherboards to come out since Intel gave permission to Amd for thunderbolt 3 before a month? Is rock solid the Asrock x570 itx with apollo thunderbolt 3?

Did you solve it..please reply because My apollo x6 uad is coming and I want to know if I should cancel it..ryzen 7 2700 and motherboard Asrock x570 Phantom Gaming itx..(reply here please..geo.zorbas@yahoo.gr)

I also use ASRock X570 PHANTOM Gaming ITX and I also have audio dropouts, pops, clicks. I'm using a Rzyen 3200g. Seems I should have gone intel. I can't find a resolution to the problem anywhere. Asrock implementation of tb seems poor

This is present on 10th Gen intel cpu and from my diagnosis I believe its gpu related as I seem to get a ton of popping during gaming and music playing. Adobe Premiere and Ableton seem to function fine so this definitely seems driver related. I've upped PCH voltage from 1.0 to 1.1, over/underclocked ram / gpu / cpu. disabled virtualization, disabled speedstep, set constant voltages on cpu / gpu. Ive disabled wifi / Bluetooth, set my power management to 99% on max cpu, usb suspend is disabled, any type of power management disabled. Firmware reset on the unit, checked my phone for interference when connecting to wifi, cleared out any cloud type software that would do any sort of indexing with files. Nothing worked and my conclusion is 100% driver related with Windows 10. Something similar like this happened with steinburg ur22s. They fortunately fixed the issue so we just need to keep reporting in.

UPDATE: ASIO Link Pro Tool seemed to help make pops and clicks less apparent but you can still hear them.
