UAD-1 on Windows 7 64-bit [solved]

Hi all,

I can't seem to find my way around the forum chaos at the moment, so I'm just asking (likely again):

Anyone who got the UAD-1 installed and running on Windows 7 64-bit?

My UAD-2 works very fine, so do the 32-bit VST plugins on 32-bit DAWs on 64-bit Windows. But I really can't seem to get any of my two UAD-1s running at all. I keep getting errors all over, first off the driver install failed (UA setup), the device manager refuses to install drivers (signature check, which can't actually be... tried deactivating sig check, no effect), later on device manager code 52, Windows keeps nagging "No drivers found" if I try to reinstall, and so on.

This might have been discussed here already, still any idea or information is appreciated.

Here no problem at all UAD-1 and UAD-2 work perfectly under Windows 7 64-Bit.

Re: UAD-1 on Windows 7 64-bit

I had a similar problem but different circumstances. I had a Quad on the motherboard and 4 UAD-1s in a Magma working fine with Vista x64 and UAD v.5.2. That same setup didn't work under WinXP SP2, I had the same driver problems you're having. When UAD v.5.3 came out, the setup stopped working and I had the same driver problems again. It was actually that the motherboard couldn't allocate resources for the UAD-1s in the Magma, the UAD-1s were fine plugged directly into the motherboard... With some finagling I forced them to be allocated, but upon rebooting I got a BSOD. My solution...I sold the Magma and UAD-1s...they work fine for the new owner.

Sorry if that's not helpful, but at least you're not alone in weird UAD-1/UAD-2 combination setup problems. It seems to be a hardware/driver resource allocation issue, at least to my untrained eye.

Reply appreciated!

Glad to know there's at least similar problems out there. I thought about selling my UAD-1s already. But honestly I am a little angry, because I didn't really plan on selling both of them. Mainly because w/o plugins they are worth little to nothing nowadayson eGay & Co. - even though mine are in perfect condition - plus I made pretty good use of Nigel and especially its component plugins (ModFilter, etc.) in many of my older projects so it's vital to keep at least one UAD-1 ... for now.

Guess I'll direct my question to UA as well. Any further replies here appreciated though. Maybe there's a way - any way - to configure Win7 to get around the problem similar to the /userva solution on XP that solved problems with >2gb ram. Because I don't seem to understand why my UAD-1s work perfectly on XP and Vista, but on Win7 no more...

Believe it or not, after 'reslotting' the UAD-1 and reinstalling the UAD drivers (v5.50) for the 32482th time it seems I have solved the issue: uninstalled the (latest) v5.50 drivers, manually cleaned out everything (inf, drivers, registry, etc.), reinstalled the older v5.30 (!)... I don't understand why, but it worked immediately with these drivers.

Could it be an issue with the v5.50 drivers and x64 UAD-1 support? I did exactly the same with v5.50 (reinstalled, manually cleaned out, reinstalled with cards in new slot order) many times before but it never worked. Now all of a sudden doing the same with v5.30 works like a charm.

UA? Halp?

Hi guys, long time reader first time poster.

So I am having a new DAW built:
Win7 64
I7-860 Lynnfield
ASUS P7P55D Deluxe
8GB G Skill
etc

I only use two UAD-1 cards. No UAD-2 and am holding off for a while on UAD-2.

So with this new install do you think I should go here http://www.uaudio.com/support/uad/downloads/archives.html and just download ver 5.30? Instead of latest ver for this fresh install? Very confused by all the posts concerning Win7 64. Some have success while others have not.

Any advice on which ver would be appreciated thanks,

Kara :)

A warm welcome to you as an active, Kara :p

I'd suggest you always go with the latest version first. After all you should always try to get things running with the most recent releases.

If all fails try to do the same as me go back in versions.

Other than v5.50 not wanting to be friends with my UAD-1 everything else seems to be going smoothly here on Win7x64 at the moment...
